I went to Wal-Mart and was looking for my favorite all time cleaner Castrol Super
Clean and was told that the EPA banned it?! What!?! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif) I guess the "associates" said they were ticked as well. No warning just, nope sorry we can't stock you anymore in California. You look hard for a good de-greaser, find it cheap and now they ban it! They pointed to Purple Power and I said forget it that stuff sucks.

So anybody have a good alternative to use? I know what I'm coming back with the next time I hit Arizona.

yeah, its all about safety from the government, they still haven't been able to do anything about earthquakes however, but at least we won't die from cleaners.

I'd be curious as to why it was banned. No matter how good something cleans, I wouldn't want to use it if it pollutes my front yard and water supply as it goes down the drain.

I guess it does not break down. Has to do with the caustic. I can understand, when I use to service scrubbers at treatment plants I couldn't dump the Acid out until the PH was neutral by adding caustic. That was hundreds of gallons though as opposed to a little half gallon of super clean.
Maybe I should write the EPA and promise to neutralize all I use before dumping it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)

I had a recent experience with "Super Clean", and had breathing difficulties for hours! Truly nasty stuff. I use Kano Labs "Floway". Amazing stuff, but a bit pricey. Find it at www.kanolabs.com

I've made the mistake (twice) of not wearing gloves while using SuperClean, it was even dilluted. Both times it did weird things to my skin, kind of like that politician in X-men, made it rubbery.

Probably just a genetic mutation that will show up in my children.

Actually Super Clean was originally "Purple power" or Purple stuff" and it was bought in flea markets and etc across the southeast way before Castrol bought the formula.. The Purplepower is even stronger than the Super Clean and it will eat the top layer of skin right off of your hands.

I hate to see them take this stuff off the market because it really works well- better than anyhing I have ever seen.

The flea market is still open now- I'm gonna go buy a whole pick up truck load of it- Nothing cleans an engine case like that stuff!

Aren't the key ingredients in SG and the Castrol product the same? Perhaps it is more concentrated in the Castrol cleaner.

Just to play devil's advocate: You have to think about how the average joe disposes of stuff like this. It often ends up in the food supply or in ground-water. Once there is might make young kids grow up with the wrong number of limbs or severe mental retardation. It might also help you to develop cancer.

Theres probably a reason why it's been taken off the market.
