With a lot of heat and PB Blaster, I managed to turn a fused mass of rust and hardware into these parts. I think the nut on the left that fits on the backside of the latch plate is supposed to be tack welded to the plate, but it came off relatively easily compared to how tightly all the other parts were conjoined. Can anyone confirm that nut should be welded to the plate? I'll tack a new nut on before sending to the platers if that is the case. If it isn't, adjusting the post height makes no sense.

No, it is not attached.
Both nuts have to be loosened to make an adjustment. The shaft does not rotate. |
