I need to check to see if the fuel pump is functioning on my 74 1.8. The wiring for it on the car is not there so I just need to test it manually. How do I just test to see if the pump will work? I bought this car as a non running project.
Thanks -Pat |

There are two terminals on the pump. + and - .
Run a wire to each with crimp-on connectors and touch to battery terminals. go, no-go. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) KT |

at some point you'll also need to know that it an deliver rated pressure; FI cars are very sensitive to fuel pressure.
after you've verified that it starts and runs (no not run it very long dry - like seconds, tops) you'll need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge. use one that goes to 100 psi - good pumps can deliver a LOT of pressure against an infinite restriction. past that, there's volume delivery data in the manuals. |
