Hello 914World engine builders (and everyone else) -

A local guy is selling a Type IV case only. It looks like it has been sitting around for quite a while. After looking it over I found a cracked corner where something was used to pry open the split line. Asking the experienced engine builders out there:
1. Is this case usable?
2. Can the crack be repaired?
3. Is it worthwhile getting repaired if it can be repaired?
4. If repairable, recommendation on shops?
5. If usable, in this condition what's a fair price?

Of course, this thread is worthless without pictures.

I’ve given away at least 10 cases and half a dozen core engines. I can’t imagine paying for a case. There is nothing special about a GA case. If you stop by, I’ll give you a good case.

I threw away a case in similar condition.
You can fix it but it will be more expensive than getting a good case. A core engine is about $400-$500, including everything. Just a standard case in bad condition is worthless.
Looking at the journals, they might need to be oversized as well.

Does it have to be a GA case? 1.7/1.8 cases are often better cases to build on.
Think of a case as a foundation for a house, would you build a house on a crumbling foundation?

Thanks everybody. Looks like I’ll pass on this one then.
No, it doesn't have to be a GA case, though he thought it was special.
Parts don’t seem to come along that frequently here in Florida, so I thought I’d ask the brain trust.
Mepstein, wold love to take you up on your offer I am in Orlando and won’t make it by your way anytime soon. So appreciate the generosity! Love this World!

Sincerely,
Sean
