Yea, some PR damage control may be needed for AA

Please note that CA. Bob B ( ME) had nothing to do with the Bob Forman the PO or such.

I say MasDrovia-- About. “Nostrovia” is the English mispronunciation of the Russian word, "Na Zdorovie", meaning "cheers". Nostrovia is now used as English slang for “let's get drunk” and as a common drinking toast. Nostrovia!

QUOTE(dr914@autoatlanta.com @ Jan 28 2019, 03:13 PM) *

I tend to believe what people say to a fault, way to gullible, even at my age. Really pathetic. Then the guy who owned the car actually acted like it was no big thing, and said that he knew that the miles were 150 and not 50.

QUOTE(mepstein @ Jan 28 2019, 12:56 PM) *

Or you can get a ppi.

forgot about this post and just got back to it, Eric, have corrected One can only believe what people tell them, until they see something in the flesh

QUOTE(Eric_Shea @ Jan 24 2019, 08:49 AM) *

So, is it 50,000 or 150,000 miles? If you're currently advertising it here with 50,000 and you are well aware it's 150,000 miles, then you are purposefully deceiving our member base.

"Well the car has 150, 000 plus miles on it, and has been totally repainted with overspray. Have not put it on the rack yet, but there is a big rat hole behind the passenger seat where the rodent ate through the back pad, so not so great after all. Please do not get me wrong, I am not complaining because I am the one who bought it sight unseen, but thought at least that the miles would be correct, but just an old worn 914 this one., Will have to recondition it and sell it, no where good enough for me to keep! Such is life. Cost 1400 to get it here

Thanks for clarify, George. Even the best of us get fooled or make bad decisions now and then. I'm 4:1 on my last 5 car purchases and consider myself fortunate at that. Ya learn something from the bad experiences as well as the great ones.

we we had one of our customers Greg Gotta fly down for the week to service this 914 and get it running with excellent results. Greg is restoring a 72 914 he purchased from California with the usual disappointment, so decided to go "whole hog" on the car. He came down here to work and learn at the same time. He is a very meticulous guy so the work he did on this car was amazing. Here is a list:

X - Locate and blow through gas lines to make sure they are clear, may want to run brake clean through them and catch it at the back
X- Check fuel pump operation and replace as necessary (new fuel pump installed) with the appropriate lines (entire new fuel line kit installed front to rear)
X- Clean and wax gas tank area and reinstall tank buffer pads (cut and installed new pads, new gas cap)
X- Connect fuel nipples and strainer and washers and nuts to bottom of gas tank, install 9 and 7 fuel lines and reinstall gas tank check the tank for proper bracketing before reinstalling.
X- Check the operation of the blower fan and wiper motor and clean and lubricate as necessary before tank is installed
X- Install charcoal canister and overflow tank, pay particular attention to the brackets in case we have to install one
X- Make sure that the fuel pump circuit works and that we have a good light for the injectors
X- Change the oil and the filter, remove the strainer and clean it
N/A - Install some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and turn over
N/A- Check the compression
N/A Check the points and make sure that the dwell is at 50
X- Make sure that there is a spark at each cylinder
X- Try to start the car
X- Change the transmission oil
X- Check the brakes for operation
X- Try to drive the car
X- Check for oil leaks
X- Check all electrics (all lights/signals good, fog lights do not come on)
X- Flush the braking system (Pressure bled entire system)
X- Check and inflate the tires
N/A- Lubricate all rubber suspension bushings (forgot about this ((:
X- Lubricate all latches and pivots
X- Remove and clean the interior and floor boards, have sue repair the back pad mouse damage
X- Scrub front and rear trunks and remove overspray (overspray removed from seals and front trunk latch. Sanded and painted front trunk area, under gas tank area, and rear trunk area)

Other
Pressure washed underside, degreased engine/transmission, washed inside of tires/rims.
Installed new fender seals
Installed new battery. POR15 and topcoat battery tray and hold down bracket, new bottom pad
Installed new jack plugs
Straitened front fender, installed new fog lenses and bumper overrides
Removed, cleaned, and painted front license plate holder (put in front trunk)
Installed new side vinyl sails along with replacing driver rear corner trim. Scraped paint off all chrome trim pieces. Cleaned top of targa and treat.
Complete detail of interior front and rear. Removed center console and cleaned mouse debris. Removed front wood floor panel, scraped and cleaned underneath. Treated vinyl areas
Scrubbed existing carpet floor mats. Installed rears, fitted new fronts.
Installed new air filter. Cleaned air box inside and out.

Too many responses to sift through...

If all the bits are there....a fair price.

Cleaned up it may fetch 20.

It.s looks to be more than 50K of road dirt and the HE.s are done
In the usual places.

Where does Washington state factor in the owner history? That a nice looking car from here has rust issues is not uncommon.

15K for a 50thousand miles 914 does not necessarily mean to be a good deal.
I don´t know any owner, who would sell under value.
I myself have a ´73 ,2.0 L with 50thousand km (31.mls), but would never sell for less than 40K !!!

Not trying to argue, because I don't have a dog in this fight, but you're kind of comparing apples and oranges. A car that's been sitting unused for 26 years will need everything gone through that you'd expect, and then probably a few things dealt with that you don't expect. Quite different condition than the looks of your car based on your photo, and we all know condition is $$$. And you're also in Germany, where they're quite a bit more expensive to begin with anyway. The average 2.0 914-4 doesn't sell for 40k here in the US, that would take an overwhelmingly exceptional car to bring that kind of money. Isn't that why you guys are buying up all of our cars?
