Researching some old posts here is what I found

according to the old Bosch list the Bosch #s should be:

1973: 039 905 205 (vac canister 022 905 271 C): 0 231 174 010 (009 without VW sign/logo), up to 1973/6

I now understand that there is a number on the arm of the unit that identifies what part this is. The number on the arm for the part I'm looking for is 839.

I found this chart, I have no idea of the accuracy. I have a few 2.0 distributors 205, and 205A and the arms have a 979 number. I was not able to find that number on the chart. I also have two 917 (0 231 174 007) distributor, 831 (0 229 905 205F) distributor. 815 I was not able to locate this number on the chart.

That is very helpful and interesting. My best guess is that the 831 would be the right part.

You may find this parts list to be one of the better available references

I found this new vacuum unit with the numbers 807. Maybe someone can chime in and tell us what engine it works with. Asking $80.

Thanks
