UPDATE: It's Official - Non-Porsche Engine 914s & 356s are Okay!
Keith & Dick said it was okay!

UPDATE #2: See Post #17 for the laest promotional email on this event from PCA Zone 8 - Now Celebrating the 914's 50th - even if a bit early!

>>>> A full list of race & other activities can be found here:
.........> http://www.zone8.org/events/speedfestival.php

914s Wanted for CFOS 356 Timeline 3/30/19, & Concours Judging School 3/31/19 at CFOS

Also according to Dick Douglas - at the upcoming California Festival of Speed, apparently they're looking to add some 914s to the 356 Timeline.

So go to this link & either register directly, or contact Dr. Keith Kimbell per Dick's email copied below.

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/356-ti...of-speed-006938

As quoted from Dick's emails to me:

#1 - "Also at the California Festival of Speed on March 30,2019 they are having a 356 Timeline and now they want to add 914’s

Anyone interested contact” Motorsportreg com “. California Festival of Speed Timeline “
you don’t have to be a PCA member to enter. Just hit continue to pass the profile page.

DD"

~&~

#2 - "They have room for 50 356’s and 914’s.

Right now they have 15 356’s!

Contact is Dr. Keith Kimble. Kjkmd@aol.com

Registration is on Motorsportreg.com

Don’t have to be Zone 8 member
... just hit continue when the site ask about membership numbers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Everyone has to stop at Retto [Registration] get a wristband and sign waivers.

They will be parked on Vendor Row and if they want to go out on the track when it is cold for a Track Tour they need to sign up and then they will be parked right next to the track entrance.

Thanks
DD"

They probably couldn't get the Porsche Museum to send over 356 #1 which was their first mid-engined street car, so they're looking to filling the 2nd production street middie - our 914s!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

How many of you knew that the 356 was supposed to be & intended to be a mid-engine car, until they simplified it for lower cost production in order to use more parts from the VW parts bin! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Oh the heresy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

.

Other Events that Weekend at CFOS -

Also, for those interested in Concours Judging or Showing & wanting to better understand our Judging, they're having a school the next day at the same CFOS weekend event -

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/cfos-c...lifornia-979322

There are also Time Trials racing & a Race Photography School at CFOS at the link below:

http://cfos.motorsportreg.com/

Time Trials -

Race Photography Class -

Aaron,

As Dick said in the email to me that I cut-n-pasted in my original post, they're expanding to 914s because they've not filled the 50 slots with only 15 356s, & he did so because Dick is trying to be supportive of 914s.

If you want to go, just register your 914 & MY & engine type at the link.

Be there or be Square! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

PS - I added bold to the parts where Dick says 914s welcome, & added his earlier email on it too.

I can't be more clear - 914s are welcome, & non-PCA-members are welcome!

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Ravi & Aaron are in! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Don't forget to check in as part of the Time Line Display to get the free parking guys, & to sign up for the track tour run if you want to do that, per Dick's instructions above.

Actually Jim, because the PCA Zone 8 Concours allows any engine in any Porsche model in the Special Categories Division - you're probably okay to be there with your conversion.

When Dick Douglas took over as Zone 8 Concours Chair this year, that was one of the first things he got straightened out with some of the judges who didn't know the rule (I provided the rule quotation & noted past problems), & some had improperly denied entry in the past.

So now the Cal Inland Region's upcoming Concours next month already has a re-engined 914 entered in SC1, & any others are welcome there & at any other Zone 8 Concours too!

While this is technically a "Display Only" Timeline, I think that Dick & Keith would apply the same rule there.

So go ahead & enter! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

PS - I'm double checking on this with Dick & Dr. Keith.

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Sorry about my "Jim" brainfart Kent!

Keith & Dick said it was okay!

Go for it Kent!

I think I saw it when you brought it to the Cruisin' Grand in Escondido for their German Cars Day, so it will look great there.

Your choice as to whether to display with the engine lid open though.

However, as a word of caution to all - based on past years when we had a Concours event as part of CFOS - there will be a bunch of tiny flotsam in the air from the race activities which will settle in & on your cars, so you may want to save yourself some cleaning by keeping the top on, doors/windows, trunks & engine lids closed to limit where you'll have to clean up later.

This stuff was part of the reason that the Concours there was stopped a few years back, in favor of a display only timeline.

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

OK, Tom. Will do! I saw the phone number listed. I'll call and reserve a spot. I couldn't register online even though I have a password to access that site and a current PCA membership. Go figure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Kent

Kent,

I've heard that that registration website that Zone 8 & the Regions use has some occasional glitches with it.

They may be one of those which "times out" your passwords after a certain time period &/or if not used recently, thereby forcing folks to change them, as some other websites I use do. So you might try the "forgot my password" option to try resetting your password, & see if that gets you in.

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
