Met a guy at Amelia Island Werks Reunion who said he once owned a 914 with a 3.2 six and it had a Boxster S transmission. He did not do the build himself, said he bought it that way. I'm going down the 915 path currently. Never heard of this combo but was wondering if anyone had? Pros/ cons.

I believe the issue is no starter provision. The modern porsche/vw/Audi transaxles have the starter on the motor side.

It’s a 1971 or 72 I believe. He was a member of NNJR when I joined in 1976. It was always a really nice original car that was used for club events as a stock 1.7. I doubt it needed restoration when he did the conversion. I frankly was astounded that he converted his long preserved and original car but hell, what a better starting point! Charlie |

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...9084&st=120 I am making slow progress with it, but it is moving. Clay |

There's a thread on the Pelican 914 BBS titled something like "solution to my shift problems" that shows the 3.2 conversion with the Boxster trans. IIRC, the guy said it would have been cheaper to buy a couple of complete Boxsters than do the swap, and that was back before early Boxes were less than $10K...

You can just change the gears in your case to better match the /6. It might not be as strong, but you can make use of first rather than just starting in second. The only difficult part is having the gear for the stock 2nd cut off and a new one welded on.

would be neat for someone to install the complete Boxster power plant in a 914, but of course being water cooled makes it a big problem. Best just to install a big air cooled six. The 914 transmissions are always good enough, in my opinion

The 914 transmissions are always good enough, in my opinion Engine is too wide, they're freaking heavy, plus I charge $30K-ish to rebuild a M96 engine, may as well do a well sorted /6. Although this 4.0 400hp NA 996 C4S engine I'm just finishing up would be fun. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) Attached image(s) |
