This looks like a very cool plug-play build....245HP is pretty impressive. Any guess as to what something like this is worth?
http://www.pristineautosusa.com/detail-197...-18741990.html# It's listed on eBay also.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/233176053778 Attached image(s) |

Holy crap. I wonder if you can could even count the miles in hundreds before the next rebuild. Maybe two races?

Reminds me of the lifespan we jokingly assign to Formula SuperVee engines.. minutes, not hours.

Reminds me of the lifespan we jokingly assign to Formula SuperVee engines.. minutes, not hours. We had a big HP 356 engine at the shop. The builder called it a 30 hour engine. I think it dynoed at 220 but can't remember other than it made six (cylinder) horsepower. |

Jeff -
You could just call or email FAT & see what they think it's worth, useful life & running characteristics. Ron at FAT also said that the bigger upbuilds like this runs hot, so you'd be stopping a lot in good warm/hot driving weather - if used for a pleasure/daily driver! Ron used to say that he can build a Type IV to any owner specs - depending upon how you wanted to use it, & that the <170 HP builds were better for street use. Unfortunately Ron has retired from FAT, so I don't run over to visit anymore (they're only 5 mins away). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Tom /////// |

I always take HP claims with a grain of salt. My twin plug 3.0/6, webcams, weber's full balance, etc., is 250 to 280HP on paper and I think 280hp is very optimistic.
With a T4 245hp would be 61hp per jug, hard to break 50hp without nickies. Back in the early 90's I bought my Type 1 2007cc engine kit w/carbs from Gene Berg, cost me almost $5K. It Has P&P heads but stock valves so I could run heater boxes. I had several conversations with Gene and one I asked how much HP the engine would be, there was a moment of silence then he said "Do you want the truth or what the other guys say to make a sale?" I said truth, and he said "about 105hp", I gulped, because my buddy was finishing the same engine size (different supplier), slightly bigger cam and big valve/port heads and was claiming 150 hp. i still pulled the trigger and bought the Gene Berg kit. I raced my buddy many times and he could never beat me, not a huge amount but I always pulled away from him. so my 105hp always beat a 150hp engine in two almost identical VW bugs. Moral to the story, don't always believe HP claims, many builders exaggerate just to make a sale. |

I.ll take the odds of my M97 with an IMS any day. It DOES make 300 HP. It makes more than 300.... more like 355-360. When I build them out to 4 liters it's about 400hp. 400 canadian = 298 us. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) |

I wonder what the price tag was for the built engine the customer brought in? The P.O. Found out it was too much engine after 5 miles?

I’m guessing it was lousy for around town driving or maybe there is more to the story that isn’t getting told. Wife freaked out at money spent. Final bill wasn’t paid, etc. |

But the damage was already done. 'Maybe a 2056 would be better for cruising around town'. $20k build install package?
