I have a pair of 16"x7" fuchs that came with 16"x6" pair for front.
I can sell or trade whole set or just the 16"x7" 911 offset for the 944 offset. I had these refinished and were on my car for about a year but after car was redone I decided they are just too tight and too much of a rubbing risk and have seen posted on this forum that the 944 7" were set in slightly more and less likely to rub. PM me if you have something to work with or are interested in this set. |

It's my understanding that a 7x16 is the same on a 911 and 944 except the 944 wheel has a little more room for the calipers. An 8x16-944 wheel is offset almost an inch to the inside, compared to an 8x16-911 wheel and used by the 911 guys to fit a wide front wheel to a 911.
A six inch wheel with a 205 tire fits great and provides a ton of traction on a light, mid engined car like ours. Why 7's? Attached image(s)

Mark, You are right, they(the 6" rims) do provide plenty of stick, not much to gain . Just that I have these 16"x7" that I ran before the repair and body paint etc, but even after that and some gentle working of the fenders , its not worth risking rubbing to run these 7" I have so I thought if I could trade I might try it, but if you are correct there is not difference between those 7" on the offset and back spacing then I may as well just sell these 16x7" to someone that can use them and keep my 6" rims on the car as it is. "Thru '85 944 used 911 o/s wheels. all the 7x15 wheels have 911.XXX.XXX.XX part #s and have ET23.3, 8x15 will also have a 911 part#, 911.XXX.XXX.XX w/ ET10.6 the 7 & 8 x16 is where the differences start to appear. 7x16 can have either 911.XXX.XXX.XX part # or 951.XXX.XXX.XX part #s, they both have ET23.3, but the 951 version has more room behind the spokes for bigger brakes the 8x16 also can have either 911.XXX.XXX.XX part # or 951.XXX.XXX.XX part #s, but the ET will be different. 911 have ET10.6, 951 have ET23.3" @DRPHIL914 |

I have a set of both 951 and 911 16x7s and the offset is the same. I measured them side by side. As others stated, the clearance inside the barrel for larger calipers is the difference.
