I'm changing back to 4 lug from 5 lug on my '76. I bought a couple of hubs from Bruce Stone and was surprised to see ink or paint markings on one of them.

Porsche did similar things for the recalls on wheels to show that they were inspected & passed. So maybe that was for a hub recall (hub-centric vs non??). Check in Jeff Bowlsby's website for PLM "Plates, Labels & Markings" to see what fits, & post here for others' info. http://bowlsby.net/914/Classic/PLM.htm Otherwise, maybe Bruce was just getting crazy with a paint pen!!?? If you decide to repaint the hub(s) repaint those markings too.
