Is anyone reproducing these two decals/stickers?

If you send a pic to Carbone they will Thanks, Chi-town. I know about CarBone, but this isn't a 100 point restoration and I'd hate to pay for some one offs. I had hoped one of the suppliers had them in inventory. I am going to refinish the expansion tank and would put repop stickers back on if they were available. No big deal, however. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. |

The unleaded fuel is VW sticker. Check around. Think Sierra Madre and AA both have stickers for sale.

Thanks, Mark. I did check the usual suspects, but no go. There are some similar looking "Unleaded fuel" decals. I think it will look just fine without stickers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It still might be worth contacting one or more sticker makers about reproducing them. I had someone on ebay make a custom 2-coat paint sticker for me and I think they charged something like $4 shipped and had it done the same day I requested it.
Without that sticker, how on earth are you going to keep some yahoo from pouring leaded gas into your tank? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) |

I’m interested in knowing about refinishing the expansion tank. What is the plan (besides stickers of course)?

Brent,
Worth a try. I took some up close pics of the stickers and measured them. I'll contact CarBone. Rob, I'm just going to clean it, lightly sand it, and spray it grey with vinyl paint. I'll post a pic later today or tomorrow. |

Usually he's pretty reasonable as he ads it to his retail offerings. |

I made some of these up a few years ago. I will look at Camp today and post a pic later.

It looks great. I think the expansion tank is blow molded polypropylene. Usually pretty tough to get paint to stick and/or last. If you get time let us know your prep and what it was sprayed with. Be great if it lasts as most of the plastic tanks look a little worse for wear.

Be great if it lasts as most of the plastic tanks look a little worse for wear. My prep was to clean it with wax and grease remover, then scuff with 400, then paint with a Rustoleum paint made for vinyl, plastic, fabric. A similar SEM product might have a better chance of lasting, but it's $20 a can vs $6 for the Rustoleum. If it lasts, remains to be seen. |

It’s been so long ago that I made these. I believe this was for the early cars. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Here's a close up of the one on my '76...
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/live.staticflickr.com-20876-1560644801.1.jpg) A couple of things. I wonder why the load of the late cars was less than the early cars...side door beams? Rear bar??? I wonder why the rear TP on the early cars was more than the front, but not so on the late cars? |
