One more recommendation for a "local" shop:
Eason Auto Works in Oakland. Bill Eason is experienced, approachable, and above all, knowledgeable in all things Porsche, stock and modified. www.easonauto.com |

Update...
I was introduced to a new shop in town that is "Comfortable and experienced working on air cooled cars.... younger guy, true enthusiast..... not afraid of working on conversions...… specializing in Porsche." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) ….. half a mile from my...… umm...…. house. So, I dropped in. Cameron couldn't have been nicer. He took me on a tour of his shop.... currently working on (5) 911s, one a total restoration 911T for a client...… and a few other nice rides. One a 914. One 911 is a backdated car receiving a 3.2 He was finishing a rebuild on the SAME MOTOR IN MY CAR!..... so, in a couple of weeks he will be picking up my car and we agreed on a couple of hours of his time to assess the situation. Can't ask for more than that! I will keep you posted (and my fingers crossed) The shop is called Wayland Motorsports in Santa Rosa. If anyone has a review to share, please send me a private message. Hey Robert - Glad to hear it. I look forward to hearing the diagnosis and hopefully some pictures. You are lucky to have found someone so close to home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Update:
I took a few minutes to go through the fuses the other day: Took each fuse out, looked at them..... cleaned them...... put them back. Turned the key..... IT FIRED RIGHT UP!!! .... that was six days ago. I have been testing the start every morning on my way out the door to work, and again when I come home for lunch. She seems to start, warm up and idle perfectly. I called to discuss this with my "new" mechanic friend. He is still going to see the car as soon as he has a couple of hours free. Hopefully I can drive the car to him on that day and he can look over the car with an experienced set of eyes. For now, I am relieved that all the mechanical parts seem to function. But still worried about trusting this car since it has left me stranded several times after running fine for days and miles. (I have ONE tow left on my AAA membership until September) Whew! ..... fingers crossed that we can make this a reliable 3.2 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

started the car..... let it warm up..... dropped the car off jacks..... cleared the garage (took about 8-10 mins)..... car was warm....
.... then died as I was climbing into the car for the first test drive At least I know that the car starts and runs. Getting closer! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Hey, at least it didn't leave me stranded somewhere |

It's all about baby steps- so long as they are in the right direction. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Bad gas, fuel line kinked, fuel filter clogged, idle set too low. The pelican guys have a lot of experience diagnosing 3.2’s. Maybe ask on the site.

I see a pattern..... starts and runs after sitting for days. Then after a few minutes, dies. And no longer starts.....until it sits a long while.
I am thinking (because I am cheap) that it could be (Hopefully) a clogged fuel filter? Clogs, starves motor.... and after a long while, enough fuel gets past the filter to allow a short run when I restart. Makes sense, right? I will install a new filter and check the lines while I am at it. I recall the lines near the fuel pump call get easily tangled. It's a tight fit. |

Take a flashlight and look inside the tank and see if there is any crud on the bottom where the fuel sock pickup is.
