I've been working away at the custom dash panel. It's not finished yet, but I've got about as far as I'm happy with before it needs to be powder coated in black.

The main jist is that it will be black mesh with a sheet of raw aluminium behind. I am placing various items in the panel such as toggle switches, LEDs, USB ports and a mobile phone holder in the centre. It's been fun to make, particularly since I've never done any metalwork in my life... Just making it up as I go.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work on that dash! I think that'll be a great compliment to your unique color.
I'd love to be able to see this in person as it's going to be a stunner!
Great stuff, really great stuff! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

The engine is pretty much done and being installed at the moment. Ceramic coated MSDS headers going on too.

That may be one of my favorite colors! Looks great but I would be nervous working on the rest of the car after the exterior paint was done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I made a start on the door cards today. Matt from 914 Rubber supplied me with some plain door cards last year that he custom stitched in orange for me. Today I got round to making up some RS-style door pulls. I used a roll of orange webbing and a craft eyelet punch tool. I then drilled into the door casing and mounted the loop with a bolt.

I cut a hole in the new door card and threaded the loop through, finishing off with genuine 911 RS plastic pull loop escutcheons.

The main difference with this method to regular 911 RS pulls is that mine pulls the door closed, whereas they open the door. This method is more in line with my skill level as I did not want to get into mounting the loop to the opening mechanism.

Thanks for looking.
// Luke.

A fair bit has happened recently, but I'll jump forward to the interior that I finished a few weeks ago.

I laid down a layer of Carbuilders acoustic foam to go between the sound deadening and the carpet:

I then made a start on the carpet, also from Carbuilders (Melbourne). It's not a 914 kit, I started with a roll of raw material. It's not the most hard-wearing carpet around, but it goes around corners really nicely and easy to glue down and trim to size.

Since I threw the factory backpad in the bin a couple of years ago, it's been my intention to carpet all the way up to the rear glass, so that's what I did.

After final assembly, the interior is now finished. I've never done anything like this before.. it was fun.

BEAUTIFUL
I went to the Thorotec website and can't find the shifter. What they have looks completly different.
Do you have any more information? How does it mount to the shift rod?

I can't speak on behalf of Thorotec regarding their product stock, but here are a few closeups of mine, if that helps...

I rolled the car out into daylight for the first time in many months to take a look last week. The windscreen has since been fitted, but here's a peek at how things are looking so far.

It's definitely yours. All sorts of cool touches. I like the color and it being on the whole body. I do miss the rubber bumper top. Nice job. When you start driving it around, I'd sure like to hear more about that shifter.
