My sincerest apologies Warren! We hadn't made a reservation yet ourselves as we were waiting to get feedback from you and Scott. We used the phone number you gave in your post and now have a reservation for the night of Sunday 09/15 that is cancellable.

Again, my apologies for not calling that number before I posted it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Meeting up with you and Donna in Knoxville for lunch (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chowtime.gif) would be awesome! By my calculations (taking into account the time change this time!), we'd have to leave the hotel at 7:00 a.m. to get to Knoxville around 11:30 a.m. (Eastern time zone) if that works for you instead of 11:00 a.m.? It would put us into Banner Elk around 3:00 p.m.-ish? If the others running with us are game; I know we sure the heck are! Maybe we can wait to see if Scott (and Katie) and Warren (and Karen) chime in?

Dude... I still feel horrible for screwing that up! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) In fact, I said at the time we owed you and Donna a bottle of your favorite wine for forgetting about the time change and we never did pay up - so I'll make you a deal! If you'll give me the names of a few of yall's most favorite wines (in case one of them isn't available here)... I'll send you the TWENTY ONE pictures we have of your car, and Clay and Richard Fisher putting the new door on your car!!! We stumbled across them when we were looking for some other pictures and I saved all of them; just waiting for the perfect opportunity. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) So... do we have a deal?!?!?!

If we wait until Okteenerfest to talk about wine..... then we won't be able to buy it and bring it. Fess up - or else I'm buying bottles of 'Tickled Pink', 'Mad Dog 20/20' and 'Zima' and will sit there expecting you and Donna to drink it up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The door (and installation) was worth much more than a bottle of wine. Maybe we can share one of our bottles of Chateau Ste Michelle Merlot with you in Banner Elk. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

It was the threat of Zima... right? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

Phewh...... thought I was going to have to actually try to find some 'Tickled Pink' to buy somewhere. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)

I truly appreciate the offer of sharing the wine, but in spite of my Dad's best efforts trying to teach me to appreciate wine, I'm still just a beer or mixed drink kind of girl. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Lunch in Knoxville sounds great.

Just booked hotels for the way there and the way back. Staying in an AirB&B in Banner Elk. Best Western is full and airB&B is half the price of a hotel.

Engine updates:

Mayo is supposed to have my heads back to me today or tomorrow. New flywheel and clutch are installed. Then reassemble the engine, put it back in the car, and then break it in. If everything goes smoothly, I should have it up and running by Monday.

Its always something. My new Bursch muffler is cracked in the middle and blown out on the top. Strange. Have no response from the company about their warrantee on the product. They won't return my call. The muffler has not been in the car very long. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hissyfit.gif). Have to find a workaround. Trying to tie up a few loose ends. Still have the old muffler if nothing else works than I will put that on. Of course it doesn't sound anything like the Bursch. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif)

Are you running 1.8 or 2.0 heat exchangers? If you are running 1.8, I have a spare muffler.

I've got the stock 1.7L muffler that you could borrow if you need to.

Updates on my car. The engine is in! I had to do some creative thinking to get the engine and transmission back in, which took some extra time. The car wouldn't drop low enough to line up the bolts and thread the nuts on. I stole the scissor jacks out of the other cars and used them to raise the dolly holding the engine and transmission. Lining up the new transmission mounts took some time as well.

Replaced the transmission end cap gaskets and changed out the fluid a couple of days ago. I haven't seen leaks yet, which is a good sign.

I'll be hooking the fuel injection up tomorrow, and hopefully, it will start!

Also, if you need to pull wires from the engine bay into the passenger compartment through the stupid tunnel, I found taping a stick to the end of the wire and shoving it through works great. Otherwise, the wire turns and bunches up.

Last thing for now. When I removed the old engine, the engine support bar fell off as soon as the 17mm bolts came loose. (Engine stayed on the dolly thankfully). Here's what the mounts looked like. I have no idea what caused this, and thankfully the engine didn't fall out or something.

As always Betty I appreciate your research and locating the stop over accommodations. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Scott, wow, those mounts were just keeping the engine in place. Just have to believe the trans mounts were keeping everything functioning. Keep focused and move forward. Know you can make the trip. Thanks you guys (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Bursch Exhaust: After multiple contacts I finally got primary decision maker at Bursch Exhaust. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) They gave me their email so I could send pictures of the defective muffler. They replied shortly after reviewing and agreed to send a call tag from FedEx for my system warrantee my defective system (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hissyfit.gif) . Since I am taking my 914 to Okteenerfest I really wanted to have the Bursch exhaust on my anemic 1.7, 1972. I decided to pick up new muffler gaskets at Zims needing to install the original muffler I had stowed away in my attic. When I showed Arron the exhaust system, he suggested that if I could find a muffler of similar size he could graft it in place of the flimsy original. Summit Racing is located near 360 and 20. So, following his advice, Summit had a thrush turbo muffler. So now I wait for Arron's expertise to recover my Bursch for reinstallation. As a meet up point, I suggest the McDonalds on the NorthEast corner of Glade Road and Hwy 121. It is in the same parking lot as Hobby Lobby, so there is room for the trailers. It should also make for easy highway entry.

How early does everyone want to leave? I would do sometime between 6 and 7 am, with the hopes of getting out of Dallas before the height of rush hour.
