OK guys, I'm currently 50 miles from the car, I need to get a new battery. I don't even know if the battery I have was stock sized, but it worked. I have the battery, but there is no size indicated on the label (some of it is torn off) I took it to wallyworld - closest i could find was a group 26, but comparing the 2 - the 26 was a bit taller and thinner?

anyone tell me what i'm looking for?

IIRC it's a group 42 (or 34R), many of us use smaller gel cell batteries because off gassing and rain washing acid down off the battery excellerates rust on the tray and hell hole.

Just dealt with this yesterday. Found that a group 42 is original, and a group 47 is the same footprint but about a half inch taller. "Should" fit where a 42 is needed unless height is a tight dimension. In my case it happened to be for a '69 VW, but same battery size for 914's.
