So, pad off and liner removed. 3 years ago I used a spray contact cement, but the porous nature of the material made that unreliable.

So this time I brushed on the contact cement, and maybe went a bit thick.

Getting the liner in place, while some brown paper keeps the two sides from sticking.

Next up, a slight snap noise--sometimes--when I opened the trunk lid. Turns out the right side engine grill panel was barely high enough to make contact. Easy fix.

Still revisiting things I "fixed" during the main rebuild. This time the console lid. The screws that hold the hinge to the lid were always dodgy, but recently 2 of 3 pulled out.

To restore the holes I glued in some pieces of toothpick. When dried, I trimmed the excess.

Now all the screws can bite hard, and hold the hinge firmly.

hey, everyone. Hope you all had a good year. My 914 is running strong and has not needed much attention. I posted on a separate thread back in July about playing with the door locks again since I still had occasional problems trying to unlock from the outside with the key. That seems to have done the trick.

Sometime earlier in the year my odometer gave out again, so with the car ready for a winter nap, I decided to take action. First, since the weather was nice enough (sunny and 55°) I took the 914 for one last drive this year. With my wonderful wife taking notes, we tested the speedometer against a GPS phone app. As I already knew, the dash gauge reads about 3 mph too high. And the odometer still does not work. So the speedometer came out.

Tomorrow I will fix it up and send it to John Bell, to fix the odo and re-calibrate the speedo.

John will, no doubt fix you up but on an analog gauge, I bet you won't get much closer than 3mph. I'd be very happy with that.

Yeah, 3 mph is not bad. And actually improved from the 5 mph error I measured 2 years ago. But the odometer will probably not fix itself.

You may get lucky, especially being Christmas, it might fix itself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Got my repaired speedometer back from John Bell (thanks, John!). Looks like my attempt to refix the drive gear to the odometer shaft failed.

All set for testing. If our lack of winter keeps up, that might be soon.
