Has anybody tried something like this in their -4?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DCXC9A...5ZBKK&psc=1 I would think 300 CCA would be more than enough to start my car. -Aaron |

There’s a long thread on pelican - “ Lucky man’s battery” by jack Olsen. He uses one on his 3.6 - 911. Seems to work fine for him. He is in Southern California so cold isn’t an issue. Great way to save ~30 lbs for cheap. Even if you had to rig two in parallel, it’s still light.

So, Jack is using one that is quite expensive now and has 480 CCA. I would think a -6 would require more grunt that a -4. No? I'd also like to stick with a LiFePO4 as he did as it's safer.
After some digging, it seems like the OEM recommendation is 235CCA, so the 300 CCA above should be just right. |

I use RetailMeNot.com to get really good coupon codes for Advance. Usually 20-25% off every online order. Like the idea of the lithium. Wish I thought of that before dropping some $$$ on this redtop Optima. |

I *think* the Advance Auto batteries are LiIon, not LiFePO4. I also can't seem to buy batteries on line with them. Probably something about California.

Just wondering if thermal runaway or fire is a concern with Li batteries?
Are LiFe batteries safer? |

I've been trying to bite my tongue on this because it's been covered before on this site. Aftermarket Lithium whatever batteries are not ready for automotive prime time. So many disadvantages up to and inclusive of thermal runaway. Is it worth losing your car (or house if parked in an attached garage) over? Useful for EV's with dedicated Battery Managment Systems - Yes. Useful on small scale consumer electronics with limited energy potential - Yes Do these still LiIon battery powered devices fail - Yes Don't believe me . . . . have a look around the interwebz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN8HcqAtDSY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Em8MO3eTo |

Here's the hold down...the universal plastic one is fine but I had to fab a metal one to satisfy some race tech guys. The electrical posts are wimpy, had to add copper ell and then posts... worth it on the race car to save 30 pounds. For my "DD" I'm using Odyssey PC 925...the PC 625 is fine also. I run the LFP-8 in my street car. Works great.
When I bought it from Advance the box was so light both I and the counter-guy thought it was empty. The battery itself doesn't weigh a whole lot more than the box it comes in. Of course, there's not a whole lot of reserve capacity in there, so if you're worried about losing your alternator at night, you may want to consider a different battery. If you're worried about LiIon batteries, you probably want to start turning off all your consumer electronics. |

If you're worried about LiIon batteries, you probably want to start turning off all your consumer electronics. Or at least make sure your insurance is paid up and that your smoke detectors work. Even if turned "off" Li Ion batteries can still experience thermal runaway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Z9190ruyIM Li Ion batteries and their associated risks are all about the quality of the battery management system that controls charge rates and cell balancing. Each of us needs to decide upon what level of risk is appropriate but to act like Li Ion batteries have no risk is foolish as many have learned the hard way. Just to be clear . . . I completely understand using Li Ion on a race car. Yes, I use them myself. However, I do so knowing their risks and make an effort to minimize the risk where possible. Store well away from other flammables. |

Andrew
I've been eyeballing that one. Does it have standard battery posts or screw on connectors like the one shown above? I'm not loving the screw on situation. What did you do for a hold down for yours? While Lithium batteries can go up in flames it seems like a pretty rare occurance. Yea I've seem videos of vape pens blowing up and phones lighting on fire but it seems like I have a better chance of winning the lottery than I do my battery burning my car down. Plus my car is such a POS would I really be out anything?! |

I havent found a proper terminal kit but I know its out there. I just changed my battery connections. You can briefly see it in the video below at 7 seconds in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAmIdFZDzYI |

Can anyone school me about the differences and similarities? I can imagine that even if there is a mismatch a bit of programing and a box could smooth the way. |
