Does anyone know of a source for brass bushings for the shifter rod as it passes through the firewall and then into the coupler box at the tranny (side shift)? I'm pretty unimpressed with the plastic replacements from 914rubber and pelican. I hadn't yet thought about the bushing under the shifter in the cockpit; was focused first on all the play in the rod as it traverses the firewall and side shift box.....

Not sure I am understanding which bush(s) you are after?
The one offered in this thread replaces the castellated nylon one in the "shift console". |

I've got a tip no one has mentioned.
That puppy is a "sintered" bushing, and they all say "self lubricated". The Datsun Z uses one of these bushings as the pilot bushing for the clutch. If you put one in "as made" it will die quickly. The lubricant that is in the bushing is not enough... The way to better lubricate the bushing is as follows: Place bushing on thumb and fill the interior of the bushing with the oil of your choice. Fill it completely full and then with your other thumb over the other end of the bushing create hydraulic pressure. Don't press hard as I have split one showing this trick to another tech. With mild pressure you will see the oil "weep" through the bushing. The sides of the bushing will go wet! It looks like "special effects" when you do it. Now the bushing is properly lubricated... Probably won't matter much in this application but in a pilot bearing application it's a requirement. This bushing looks great. I will order one for my car. Thank you for making these! |
