I just got a letter from my bank yesterday saying that my account was tampered with. I haven't noticed anything yet. I did enter the wrong zip code while trying to fill up the other day and I was denied. I'm thinking of putting my money under the mattress!
Man your situation sucks. I just heard on the news the other day that it's just a matter of time before someone steals your identity. |

that sux... the bastards got my paypal acct. info a few years ago, before all the news about phishing scams... it took a month to get it all cleared up and I had to finally switch banks.. BofA kept letting transactions go through, even after they KNEW that the account had been tampered with...

This happened to me a year or so ago. The bank replaced the money pretty quick but it was still a pain. Luckily I didn't have any checks bounce, that's the big downfall of the check card. It was most likely a local merchant that stole the number instead of some online transaction.
Have you seen where some credit card companies will give you temporary numbers to use online for just 1 or 2 transactions? I expect to see more of this in the future along with some kind of rolling code that gets written back on your credit card each time it's swiped. Anyway, sorry about the hassle; and on a holiday weekend too, bummer (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) |

I had the same thing happen. Notified bank. They did 2 month investigation, then restored $1500 taken from my account, plus overdraft charges. Ditch those atm cards - no advantage to them compared to credit card. Worst part, as you found out, money comes out of your acct w/o your say so, and you're at your banks mercy to get it back.

any GOOD bank has a fraud protection plan.if they dont get out and find one.im very sorry to hear youre victim of fraud,i think is sucks that people feel they need to rip you off.(in any way they can )in this modern age of information it has got very easy to steal youre information, and become you or anyone.it really PISSES me of to hear honest people getting bit by this modern disease.
ok im done james talk to youre bank show what transaction you made and the ones you didnt, any honest bank will work with you to rectify the sitch.the only fraud i have ever had to deal with was someone hacked my cell phone(yeah my cell phone) and a group of five people took my phone service for a ride, and i got stuck with 2000.00 bill!!! bastard f*&ken rip offs |

Damn, Larry... that sucks. Hopefully the bank will do right by you quickly. It hasn't happened to me (knock on wood) and can't even imagine that kind of theft. Damned criminals. -L |

Find out what gas station, contact the police, maybe they can catch the guy in action? If you have online banking capabilities, some banks will show the address of the location where you used it for a credit or debit transaction. Especially for gas stations. If it's the same gas station for all transactions, well there ya go (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)
