Ok, now that I got the fan back(nice job Ben!). when I took the fan out I spun the alt to loosen the screws so didn't really see how everything fit in there. can't really find anything online, so what is the proper orientation of the alt and the air diverter? TIA

I may have some pics but need to find them. The diverter needs to send air to #1, 2 & 3 cylinders. Is your alt an ext or int regulated style? If int reg style it only fits one way or it will interfere with the regulator. Let me see if I can find my pics.

On my brothers 3.0 with a int reg you can see that it needs to be at the bottom.
The diverter also has an opening at the bottom of it so it can only mount one way.
The other diverter in the pic is for an ext reg but needs to be clocked so the fins push the air to # 1, 2 , & 3 cyl. Hope that helps you out.
