Ok, now that I got the fan back(nice job Ben!). when I took the fan out I spun the alt to loosen the screws so didn't really see how everything fit in there. can't really find anything online, so what is the proper orientation of the alt and the air diverter? TIA

That's good ,not a fan of internal regulators in the 914 situation ,not such a big deal with a 911 but a real bitch with our cars if it fails.

This is why I did the big access hole on my firewall and I've already used it once to R&R the fan. Now I have the sneaking suspicion that my alternator bearings are going.
