We did actually make all to the "red " spec.
The $2 is what it cost to run another color and perhaps sit on these for awhile as they are not black. Ya can't just do 100 of them, we did 500 this run.

The original relays in the early 914s and 911s were in a metal can. Would it be possible to get some made with the guts of your relay, but in a metal can?

It isn't used on a 914. Mid 70s and up 911s got them. They are functionally the same as the black one, but they are designed to handle more wattage.

Ok, I had a couple from pulling parts in the 90's at the Porsche junkyard but couldn't ever remember seeing them on a 914.
