So, I've been a member here since 2011. I've been interested in 914's for longer than that. But to be honest my focus was always in the 356, 912 and 911.
After I sold my 944S2 I went on the hunt for a good 912. Which I did find, and bought... so I thought. We had a gentleman's agreement. Shook the guys hand and planned to pick the car up a week later. Day on forehand the owner started to act weird. Long story short, I didn't buy the 912. Actually after numerous 'failures' in buying an air-cooled Porsche I got fed up with the entire Porsche scene. I had cash burning in my pocket and so I bought a VW bug instead. And another one. And a 69 westy camper... One of the bugs ended out as a buggy project the other got sold. So after just recently selling my buggy I finally bit the bullet and bought my first 914. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif) Finally! The '69 westy stays in the fleet though. That's for weekends with the family. That brings me to my plans. I'm trying to make it a focussed weekend driver. So I'm planning on new/ better shocks, maybe bigger sway bars, sticky tires, upgraded discs all without losing the stock look. It's going to take some time the find the proper parts... but since the car is still currently in L.A. at a dealer and I'm located in The Netherlands I still have some time on my hands. Update here |

Just now I had a long call with BHCC again. They walked me trough the process they had to do so far. It's not all on them to be fair!
So basically since the law changed on export for cars from NY and I only bought the car a couple of days later so they had to request a new title. Normally that wouldn't be a big problem. But 'my' car is missing a sticker with approval and VIN from the doorsill. So they had to have the car inspected in person apparently. That inspection was done march 16th and that's the document they got in yesterday. (apparently) With that document they now can go to the DMV and request the new title. Except the DMV is closed. So monday they try again, if the DMV is still closed by then I have a few choices. 1. I get the refund. 2. We try to make a deal on the silver 914 2.0 like was suggested by @jagalyn that was also suggested by BHCC 3. I wait. 3. is not an option anymore. I'm tempted to go for 2. but I think I can't come up that much. What would be reasonable price for that car? I think I can come up to about 17K excl shipping maybe 18 if I stretch it thin. 1974 914 2.0 Silver What would you do? Anybody selling a nice 914 as alternative (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Take your time, with COVID-19 nothing is going to happening quick now anyways. I'd say try to scrape a bit more cash together, take your time looking and get the best car you can. PPI is a must, only exception is from a trusted fellow member. Even if you have to borrow cash, then you can drive a sorted 914 today, not 4 years from now. Unfortunately for a buyer good sorted 914 prices have gone up quite a bit, we'll see if there's any panic selling of classic cars in the coming months. |
