This is a 1976 Porsche 914 that has a 1981 Porsche 3.0L SC engine. Almost all work done to the car has been done by myself (except wrap, bodywork, and specialty rebuilt parts). I have owned the car since 2009. In 2010 I purchased a project 911 to swap the engine to my 914. After preparing the engine and collecting parts the swap was done in the summer of 2014. I have driven this car every fall and spring when there is nice weather. Mileage of engine and car is unknown. Annual driven estimates are 2-4 thousand miles. Engine pulls hard and is a true blast to drive in this tiny car. Previous owners gutted the car for autocross – this is a lightweight 914. Interior is bed liner – no carpet. No accidents under my ownership. The car has never been towed home. I also own a 2000 Boxster S that I work on myself as well.
$17,000 SOLD Issues: Slight rust issues were fixed by my body guy before being wrapped (paint underneath is faded red). Previous rust issues were already fixed before my purchase (battery hellhole). Racing seats need to be recovered or replaced – I have passenger seat but is not in car. The oil tank oil filter mount was not drilled center so I am using a remote oil mount. This allows for extra oil temp sensors that are featured in the center console and for the remote fan. Engine leaks like any classic Porsche engine as does the oil tank through a fitting or mount I apparently didn’t seal well enough when installed. Speedometer is not accurate – bounces around despite new cable. Had I not just bought a 914-6, this would be one I would consider for sure. That is a lot of car for the money.

It'll be going on BaT if it doesn't sell in this last attempt. Just wanted to keep it in the Porsche community! It's a unique car that has to find the right owner - it's not for everyone. And yeah...the 1976 model year is a negative.

For those of us still stuck in Calif there is smog required on 76 and newer. Usually a deal breaker.

For those of us still stuck in Calif there is smog required on 76 and newer. Usually a deal breaker. With a 1981 engine (and perhaps cats) would it not exceed the 1976 tailpipe requirements? Engine has carbs and no cat. But there are still 49 other states. |

I may have this car confused with another one, but wasn't there a leak down / compression issue with one cylinder?

With a 1981 engine (and perhaps cats) would it not exceed the 1976 tailpipe requirements? CA SMOG is not solely sniffer based, car needs to have its OEM set up and since this car's configuration was never sold by Porsche no way to get it through. Although I support clean air, the original law was supposed to be a 30 year rolling start date. ( In other words, it should be cars made in 1989 and earlier are exempt). Don't citizens have the right in California to start a Prop? Maybe it could be Prop 914. HA |

This car could be registered in Ca, just would take some work and scheming.

@patssle - please correct my memory if it is off, but if I am remembering correctly (and I may not be) low compression in one or more cylinders is kind of important to know.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I'd like to know this as well. This is something of my next 914.
- I'll take wide fenders already installed OR - more so I'd take a 6 already installed Being a 76 is kind of neat since there so few. MD owners dont need to worry about the smog laws I'd have to ditch the bubs though. |
