o.k. - here's the translation of the document from Porsche Classic, Germany
---------- Dear Mr. Viets, many thanks for your letter from 8. Nov 1992. The Porsche Classic GmbH, a doughter company from the Porsche AG, is now responsibel for all the older Porsche cars (356, 914, 914/6 and 911/912 up to model year 1973). One main target is to provide spare parts and literature: just a few months after the beginning of our activity we had expanded our assortment from about 4000 positions up to about 7500 positions. At the moment the distribution from parts and literatur is organized by Porsche dealers. At every Porsche center or importer you can order parts or you will get price information. Information about tech spec from car 47 5 29 11303 are on the enclosed sheet. (*) According to our files there were built about 142 "Silver Series" cars. Therefore there were 63 other cars delivered in Germany after your car. We hope this info answers your question. Don't hesitate to ask more questions to your Porsche center or to us directly. ---------- (*) the "enclosed sheet" is the real COA: Attached thumbnail(s) |

So what about the SS cars makes them unique? It looks like they have standardly available accessories. Tinted glass, Sport group (Sway bars, center console, driving lamps) interval wipers and factory PVC undercoating
Is the Z4V9 code sopmhow unique to SS cars, was it not otherwise available? Any mechanical differences...? Way cool to see a Euro COA... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) |

Bowlsby,
I'd have to say the paint code is not unique, as my car has that paint code (L97A), but was a 1.8 with out swaybars and steel wheels. |

to be honest - there's nothing special with the SS cars but the name (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)
they were just a kind of sales strategy (a bit like the LE cars) to increase the falling turnover the responsible sales experts created a fully optionet out car that was - to be some kind of special - only available in diamond silver metallic and called it silver series in addition is was limited but all options were also available on every other car - so, nothing special I guess that's the reason why there are hardly any of the SS cars left nobody treated them as special cars (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) the Z4V9 color is listed in the Porsche colour chart #1052.14 (Standard and Special Colours 1975) as a special colour - but, AFAIK, silver was a special colour on all model years |

Thats a major bummer...
I was hoping it had special gauges or silver targa bar trim or...anything... The 'COA' doesn't even mention 'SilberSeries', and it doesnt mention wheels...were they just the standard steel wheels? |

That's a white or yellow car. Lots of those guys are wearing grey suits, which means if the car was silver it would match their suits. But the silver series was just a marketing ploy to get rid of inventory. They wouldn't make new stuff if they were trying to get rid of stuff. It's a completely stock car except for the paint code.

<!-- QuoteBegin --></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td>QUOTE </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!-- QuoteEBegin -->the VIN should be somewhere between 47 5 29 11224 - 11366 DGVWPB says it was a limited series from 100 cars Porsche Classic says there were about 142 cars produced<!-- QuoteEnd --></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!-- QuoteEEnd --> Wow...that alone says alot. The serial numbers span exactly 142 cars just as Porsche Classics suggests.... Wolfgang, do any of our European bretheren ever get a COA? If so...would the 'SilberSeries' be mentioned on the COA? How about any known window stickers from the SS cars...are any known to exist? 11224-11366 is 143 cars.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) |
