I just saw a couple posts on the bird about this car; have not been active over there but was still subscribed to a thread re. Otto.

I was part of his pit crew when he raced at PIR. He raced in the under 3.0 liter class. So it was a 2.9 something motor with webers. Don’t know if it was an SC block or earlier mag case. I have pictures of it somewhere.

Is this car the infamous Rudy that JW raced? They had a memorial for JW/Otto and did some laps in the car.
Also a shot of Rudy on his memorial page. https://yovenice.com/2013/02/10/rip-john-otto-williamson/ Here is a shot of Rudy at PIR many years ago. |

What was the original engine...anyone know?,not a lot of money for a car with that sort of history. I think part of the discounted price has gotta be that the car has not actively competed/driven in years now so would need extensive refreshing and tech approval. The ginther windscreen and lack of front rollcage hoop limits where it can be raced. The engine was a 2.8/2.9 high-compression build as I recall but I don't know specifics. In later years it did have Motec management but not sure about the induction setup. Short gears, strong torque and large slicks made the car a monster at tight tracks like Streets of Willow. I got a brief trackside ridealong once -- it had no passenger seat so this prob was sitting on a beer cooler -- very quick and loud, obviously... |

I am not sure how many cars that Otto built. The current car being sold by Don Ahearn is an early 1970 original six; serial appears to be 9140430157, but last digits are not distinct and could be 69.
Otto's Rudy was supposed to be a 1971 914/6. Chuck McKinney had Otto build a conversion from 4742906456 about 1989. This was owned by Steve Lannoch until sold in 2015. Anyone who has VIN information on any of Otto's cars should contact me. |

pretty beaten, but is a real six chassis. I would think more like 15 because someone would have to totally reconstruct it

There was also a yellow GT-flared car built at Ottos in the mid 2000's as I recall from a tub that had burned to the ground out by WSIR. JW called it the "burn victim" and it was campaigned a bit with POC as a 3.0 with carbs.
