Test drove the car for the first time last light.

I have not been able to get the blinker to work since I got the new used harness in the car.

#1 Dose the wiring for the blinker go through the hazard switch?

#2 Should the light in the hazard switch button be on all the time? In this car it goes off when you pull it out and on all the time when in. Even with the key off.

#3 I have no dash lights at all, should I revisit the light switch or so there something else I am missing?

It is possible I have some wires on the hazard switch wrong.

Thanks.

#1 Dose the wiring for the blinker go through the hazard switch? just as a junction

#2 Should the light in the hazard switch button be on all the time? In this car it goes off when you pull it out and on all the time when in. Even with the key off. no goes off when the key is off

#3 I have no dash lights at all, should I revisit the light switch or so there something else I am missing? black with blue wire coming off the headlight switch and taveling through the rheostat

It is possible I have some wires on the hazard switch wrong.

Thanks.

In brief:

#1: they share a bunch of wiring
#2: no, not expected behavior
#3: many possible errors, light switch is where I'd start

Sounds like you want to re-check wiring carefully against the schematic. Those 1/4" switch connections (and labeling thereof) can easily be missed or swapped...

Good luck!

The turn signals are interconnected with the hazard switch.

The hazard switch should blink when on with the lights.

The wire off the rheostat goes to the dash lights. Which is all I know about dash lights since my dash is still out. I do see it working with a test light

Thank you for the replies.

The flasher unit has a big Red wire going to it.

Should it be "hot" when key is on?

Also I have found wiring on line - how much is the difference in wiring/colors between 72 and older and 73 and newer?

Seems to be a difference here.

I'd not expect much difference at all, if any on the same circuits, but please get a second opinion (or third or 4th).

Let us know how the rest of the test drive went after this gets sorted, enjoy.

Working on it, pretty sure it needs a new ignition switch. Owner needs me to be done with it though.

On my 72 wiring diagram:
Big Red Wire goes to Terminal 49 (connects between the hazard switch and the flasher relay)
Red wire with White stripe goes to Terminal 15 (Switched power from Fuse 9)
Red and Black wire goes to Terminal 30 (Non-Switched battery power from Fuse 11)

When the switch is in the pushed-in state, power flows from Terminal 15 to Terminal 49 with the key on.
When the switch is pulled-out, power flows from Terminal 30 to Terminal 49.

3 Black/White wires go to Terminal L
3 Black/Green wires go to Terminal R

1 Combo of Black/Green and White/Green wires goes to Terminal 49a

Brown wires to Terminal 31

On my 73 wiring diagram:

Same as above with 1 additional Black/Blue wire going to Terminal... I think it's 58b (can't make out if it's 56 or 58)

Gotcha, so that's a 73+ hazard switch.

The terminal with the + on it (top left) should be Terminal 49
Bottom right is Terminal R
And the one sticking out the side (bottom center of the pic) is the ground terminal.

THANK YOU & THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

IT ALL WORKS NOW!!!

Have I mentioned how great this forum is - well you are all a great help to us newbeeeesssss.

But I really hate taking the light switches out of these little cars.

Anyway had a couple of wires wrong on the hazard switch. Fixed now blinkers & hazards work as designed.

Dash light should work had the power feed for them on a non powered fuse in the panel. ???

Thanks again.

Some pictures of the assembled car - just need to put some miles on it to make sure all is right before giving it back to the owner.

She's a beauty!

Though I do have to ask... on this particular vehicle, were the wiper arms installed intentionally so that they park on the passenger side of the car, rather than the driver's side? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Ah don't sweat that, not the first, won't be the last.
At least that's an easy fix with a wrench!

Well done,IMO fixing electrical on my car is the most rewarding job, automotive wiring can be a PITA on older cars..I always seem to get there but it generally takes me for ever (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) .
Nice looking car by the way.

thank you and I agree about the wiring. Thought about just cutting all this off and turning into a 5 wire track car! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif)

Why do they always design it to be put in the hardest places to get your hands? REALLY?
