Good morning. I was going through some past notes and @bdatone914 made the suggestion of either blocking off where the heat would be connected or just stripping the shell off the actual exhaust part of the heat exchanger on a car that would not be using heat.

Is it better to take one approach versus the other? I would imagine stripping the shell off the actual exhaust would allow everything to stay a bit cooler, but not sure if there’s any shielding that makes sense to leave in place to help the engine stay cool.

Hope everybody had a good weekend.

Tdship, I took mine off many years ago, cleaned up the header portion and they work great 10 until engine was pulled. My outer shell/heat exchangers were pretty rusty, header pipes them selves were good. best, Mark

I stripped the exchangers off mine only because they were in terrible shape and unusable. In my opinion, if they are in good shape leave them and block off, or buy some that are stripped and use those instead.

I'd take off the heater branch pieces and block off the air outlets at the bottom of the impeller housing as well

Make sure you cap off the holes into the longs as rodents love to make nests in there.

If your interested, I have a set, that I am willing to part with.
They have not been on my car, changed my mind and decided to go with a header

They have the outer cases stripped off and have been powder coated.

Send me a pm, if your interested
