have just dropped gearbox in a 1974 1.8.
to do the clutch. first time - after 46 years. there was this piece of paper on it. probably protected by starter motor. what is it? dusted it carefully. if anything was ever written on it, long faded. mechanic and i think it might be a factory build sticker, like some shelf part thing? dunno. 99.9% sure this gearbox (and engine) have never been dropped before.   |

We may never know what info it had on it. My early 74 built LE had one on it as well. A low mileage car and relatively untouched. Can you measure the dimensions of the label?

sticker dimensions.
metric (aus is metric like germany). in millimetres. looked at it with a uv light today i borrowed. nothing could be seen. whatever was written on it lost to time.  |

Thanks. I believe it to be a plain paper label, so exposure to the elements would have eroded the surface quickly thus removing the printing. Mine is in exactly the same location.

Is there an aluminum tag under one of the nuts for the side cover? That's what you'll find for a limited slip diff
