This will sound super strange to many of you, but even though the SC was a more refined, comfortable car all around, with great body lines, I outgrew it. As I hit 65 I felt like more of an entitled dick driving it, especially with rampant unemployment and soon to be record evictions and foreclosures. I know this is my take and not reflective of the majority of owners of exoticy foreign cars.

The good news is I never get that entitled rich dick feeling driving the 914. Many don’t know what it is, other than a it’s cool little car. Those that do know ( pre-COVID) rush over and want to talk about it. They had one, still have one, or Know someone who had one. 914s are cars people love and are super approachable. They are quirky, fun little boxes on wheels which either sound like VW bugs, 911s, or roaring V8s. And that’s the beauty, you never know.

So now the 914 is my one and only other than my DD. So long SC, it’s off to NY tomorrow.

We just want you to get your Six home so you can drive it.
What’s the status on it, I thought AASE Motorsports was finishing it up.

Now my 2 cents on entitlement.

If you work hard you can have whatever you want, enjoy it.
If you studied and got the education in life to move ahead then good for you.
If you were at the right place at the right time then good for you.
If you just got plain lucky in life then good for you.

But if your able bodied and set on your ass all day and collect all the free crap the government gives you then I say your the entitled one. Only in America do we reward all the POSs who do nothing.....That’s entitlement.

Doesn't sound strange at all. Sounds like human decency and compassion to me. I don't [usually] begrudge anyone for what they do with their $, but I get not wanting to feel like you're flaunting wealth when those around you may be struggling. Plus the 914 is a cooler car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (although that SC looks very nice)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) 16 years ago, I owned an 1983 Cabriolet and 1974 2.0 at the same time. I could only drive one at time. I sold the taildragger just as you did cuz of the handling experience of the teener. Glad to know someone made a similar decision.

Didn’t quite know what to expect for responses and have to say I am very pleasantly surprised. Robert summed it up very well. Thank you

I have zero issue with people having and driving as many nice as they want. I was there and completely understand. Yeah owning three Porsches at one time sums it up and I am small-time compared to people with collections. But i’m Just not there any more.

Cairo, no worries. My 914 was bastardized into a 6 and puts a big smile on my face every time I hammer it through the twisties.

Great responses. Thanks guys

I get what Rick was saying, I think? Which is less about whether what others think is right or wrong and more about the fact that you're along for whatever ride that looks like as you can't control it—and you either care or don't care. That's up to each of us, and I echo those who say if you worked for it, you don't owe anyone an explanation. And yet, the thing I like least about my 911 is probably its message to others…which is also funny because plenty of people out there spend more each year on dining out, vacations, home improvement, boats, planes, etc etc. Or sales tax as they hop from one car to the next.

Share Rick's sentiments on the 914 by comparison, and made a similar decision with my 911 SC years ago—though for different reasons, alluded to here at around 34:00 (914 discussion starts a bit earlier, around 25:00 or 30:00, for those interested).

When you drive a 914, people don’t think your entitled because they think it’s a Fiat.

Well said guys. Greg especially. Yeah, my car was at Aase for the mechanicals to be completed and it is now in the incredibly capable hands of Jim and crew to get it across the finish line. We are in the last 100 yards of the marathon. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Bernie and I think you have your priorities about right, Rick.

But you could’ve at least called me to say you were selling.
