Hi, replacing the seals on the speedodrive. (combining it with the gearboxoil change)
(inspired by the saturday video of Ian / Cuddy_K)

O-ring makes perfect sense. Easy one. But the seal....
I had a hard time getting the old seal out, so it came out in pieces in the end. The new seal does not just drop in position.
Should the new shaft seal (999 113 036 50) just drop in ? Or do I just put the shaft in, seal around the end of the shaft and then the rest of the parts will press it further in when I am assembling it back ? Or do you press the seal in first and then the shaft through it ?
Any tips ? Thanks !

I just did the same thing yesterday except I got the new two seal speedo drive from 914rubber. I tried pushing that seal in and it wouldn’t stay. I wound up putting it in with the washer on top of it and then let it press into place when I tightened the speedo angled arm into the drive. I took the arm back out to inspect the results and it definitely pressed the seal in correctly.

@Aualexa1 thanks for the reply, that is what I had in mind, but wanted to verify this with the World first. No idea what the original way is.

can you provide an additional picture showing where that seal circled in green goes? appreciate the tutorial- I also installed my 914rubber part and then realized that the old angle drive was severly worn so I ordered a new angle drive, but not sure if it comes with that seal and washer or if they have to be ordered separately, and where each part goes.

They (the washer) are available from the dealer and I do not believe they do come with.
As far as order the bushing we make it comes with all 3 seals, just not the washer as they are rarely worn that bad.

yes that does help thanks frank!! and Mark, that's what I thought, I reused the washer and installed my double seal unit from you so new seal in place. then I ordered my new angle drive unit from Pelican and ended up somehow getting that new seal and the washer as well even though I now realize I don't need either since you supplied us with all new seals. I wasn't sure when I ordered all that I thought the seal was needed for the angle drive but I was mistaken, so I have an extra.

I am leak free and the new angle drive is nice and tight not loose as a goose and flopping around like my old one!. Now to sort out my speedo issue...….

I know a lot of people use vice grips to tighten the 26mm part of the angle drive but I hate marking up a part of the car if I don't have too.

I found 26mm combination wrenches from about $12 to $30 for a ratcheting version from McMasterCarr.
