I think I have an easy solution for installing the hose in the OEM style MC but need to test using the metal washers in place. TIA, Kent

O D is 13 mm, thickness 1 mm. I just measured a master cylinder. I think rhe hole is 10mm it has to clear the feed hole in the bottom of the bore. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Well, looks like I need to make 3 sizes! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) JK. Apparently the metal washers purpose is to support the base of rubber washer while preventing the tube from passing thru and bottoming out? Or should the tube pass freely thru the metal washer? If so how would you know if it had bottomed out or not? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) So the OD of the metal washer should be just large enough to drop inside the MC and the ID should be equal to the OD of the tube or slightly larger? And the 1mm depth should leave the the lip of the rubber washer snug against the MC. Sound about right.
Edit:I just looked at the new MC and noticed that it is stepped. Probably why there are differing dimensions given. At the lowest point or bottom it measures 13.11mm; next step up measures 13.5mm and the top of bore measures 14.85mm. Does the washer sit upon the 1st step preventing the hose from bottoming out? I'll add a pic. |

Nothing wrong with the way Ate made them. @bdstone914 Bruce, I want to prove to myself this easy install will work. Remember my genius idea for installing those trailing arm bushings. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) Well this works but I want to place a washer in there to be 100% surebefore I embarrass myself, again. I will install the MC on my 76 one day but not now. Therefor I don't have any washers at present. I'll share this info with everyone shortly. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

I'll give you a set to see if there's an easy way to install the rubber bits on top. So far the washers don't actually "help".
I've been giving them away with the new master cylinders lately. |

The washer should rest on the step, see Boomguy's post: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&...t&p=2808079
Ok I now understand where the washer needs to go, bear with me here. I removed a 19mm M/C out of my car today because ... well it looked like ithad been used as an anchor, previous owner put it in. I have on order a new MC but wasn't sure if it would come with washers so I checked the old one .... none, plus one of the two interior seals was backwards so I know why it looked the way it did. Now I asked my original question because I thought maybe I could find some, somewhere. The 19mm step measured at 14.35mm, in one of my drawers I actually found two washers that fit perfectly (14.25mm). Now when you guys said 8x10mm I thought I had the wrong area for the washer. I dug around and found the original 17mm MC and it did have washers... 13.95mm and confirmed that step in the pic. Now I realize the 17mm is oem and the19mm is aftermarket but there is only one part number from porsche. Sorry for rambling... |

I can insert the plastic line, that was provided by Mark, by hand quite easily so I assume the complaints have been about trying to insert the plastic lines into the replacement MC once the MC is installed on the car. Is that correct? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
