I have both 914's insured with Hagerty. I would NEVER "rent" them to anyone even if they are a PCA member, as I have been for nearly 50 years. Sorry...
I've had friends drive them with me and I doubt they'd want to drive anyone's classic car without the owner going along. That being said, my son rented a 911 cab a couple years ago in CA when on vacation with his wife. He used Turo and had a good experience. The guy renting didn't realize he'd never have anyone as careful as he is (was) driving it. |

The only person I let drive my 914 other than myself is my mechanic And I’ve known him for more years than I’ve owned the car.

The guy renting didn't realize he'd never have anyone as careful as he is (was) driving it. My local motorsports place also sells those Vanderhall looks-like-a-car-but-is-registered-as-a-motorcycle things, and last time I was there a tow truck brought in one that had been rented out through Turo. The renter had driven it off the curb and had gotten it upside down. The guys in the shop were laughing because it had just left the week before after getting repaired from when a different Turo renter had gotten it on its side. So a dude bought a $35k car/motorcycle thing just to rent out, and two customers in a row couldn't succeed in keeping the shiny side up. Based on how beat up with was, I don't think it there was a chance for a third customer to also flip it over. So, I'd be really surprised that anyone who actually liked their car would put it out on Turo. |

Not ever happening. Additionally, I had Haggerty for a few years on my Six and this time when renewal came up and I was going to be driving my car (finally) I called Grundy. I got more coverage and for almost half the price with an agreed upon value that would cover my costs for the car. How do you say no to that? I tried to work with Haggerty and they offered to reduce my coverage by a pretty good amount for $100 less per year. Yeah, sorry. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Is a insurance co pretending to be a classic car ins. Co . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) .... Im sure the 911 is their bread and butter and when the 914 narp came along . they were stuck |

A friend of mine rented his car to that vampire show, The Vampire Diaries. I think the pay was pretty good, but you can have some rough treatment. One time they did a hard skid and flatspotted the tires, he got a new set. I don't think I would lend my car out.

There are only a few people I would let drive any of our 914s.
I let @Rusty drive Elwood at Okteenerfest, but he is the DAPO, so he gets a pass. I let Aaron ( @partsguy22 ) drive Igor, but he helped build it. I let the local PCA AX chair drive Igor around in the parking lot at an AX. I let one of our local PCA ladies drive my car one time. She left the park brake on. Betty let one of our local PCA ladies drive her car. Betty has to approve of ANYONE that drives her car. I am not allowed to do it, and I would never even try. And none of them drove it alone on the street. There are only a few people I would hand the keys to without question.... Vic Elford. Derick Bell. Hurley Heywood. And maybe a few more pros, but that would be on a case by case basis. I figure if the Porsche factory trusted you with a 917,then I can trust you with my car. Id flip the keyes over to paul newman any day
Color of money (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) But to his defense the plot of the movie revolves around pauls character losing his vision |

Is anyone renting a Porsche to take it nice and easy? I seriously doubt it...
My biggest fear would be someone doing a money shift but it only taking a catastrophic shit months later so you had zero recourse. |

I don't hesitate to let my nephew, my number 1 rental son, drive Mistress, my 73 teener, because he's a skilled racer in his spec Miata. He's turned wrenches in my garage for many of his formative years, but now that he has 2 young sons his racing schedule has been seriously handicapped. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) |

Is anyone renting a Porsche to take it nice and easy? I seriously doubt it... My biggest fear would be someone doing a money shift but it only taking a catastrophic shit months later so you had zero recourse. That's a real fear. Ask me how I know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Only catastrophic engine failure I've ever experienced while driving a Porsche on road or track was likely the result of someone else's missed shift—but all eyes were (of course) on the ass in the seat when a rod went through the case. Very awkward. Or just ask Jerry Woods, who was called as an expert witness to testify that once rod bolts are stretched, their nuts no longer retain the same torque value—and their new torque value, whatever it is, is a ticking time bomb. Could be next weekend, or sooner. Or a year away. Or "someday." With a Porsche flat six, that's a huge liability for most people. It's the number-one thing I think about when letting someone drive my 914 out of my sight…which doesn't happen often. A complete stranger out for their one chance at a romp in my old Porsche? Nope—unless the rental includes enough money to cover the parts, labor, hassle, and heartache of an engine rebuild with a longterm warranty period. Even so, I'll let just about anyone who asks to drive my 914 do so. It's good to share, and some of the most fun I've had in my 914 has been seeing others' revelations while driving it. But the number of people I'll let drive it without me in the car can probably be counted out on a single hand. A complete stranger, who has "paid for my time in this car"? No way. |

I have no issue letting "some" people drive any of our cars.
My wife drives all of them like she stole it. She also drives the company forklift truck and our old bus. My brother in law has driven my cars, and some of my PCA friends have driven my cars, but I feel funny driving their cars. Go figure. Bill. |

I let my grandson drive several times. He’s going to have a license this year so it will be even more fun. I’ve thought about renting my car out but it’s a risk I do t want to take at this point.

I would be hesitant to let anyone drive my 914 except like someone already mentioned my mechanic, he has already driven it. I would never rent out or let someone just use it to go somewhere. Someone wanted to use my jet ski for the day, I had to let them know it was not something I lend out. If they want to go with us that is fine.
