Hey guys,

Back at the Adjustment today. I milled off the rocker retainers about .015 on each side, giving me a little more clearance to run spacers between every part.

So..... I used the recommended push rod lengths for both the intake and exhaust.

Lift Intake: .488
Lift Exhaust:.470

Everything lines up really nice at 1/2 lift. No binding. 0 lash.

Not sure if I am concerned.... but I have had to make zero push rod adjustments from Raby's recommended sizes.... Just seems a bit odd, maybe lucky? If You guys think green light, I will carry on to the next cylinder.

Looking good Jared.

I think I was able to capture the halfway point between the lift and that looks pretty close to spot on. At half lift you want to try to be parallel with the top of the valve to the face of the rocker.

Okay Nick... so I missed that. Looking for valve and rocker arm (ignoring the adjuster) Parallel alignment. So the word “geometry” makes a bit more sense with push rod adjustment.

Maybe I need to stop the cold ones while trying to retain information.

You can confirm by throwing your old adjust in the place, sharpie the valve head, set the lash to zero and go through one revolution.

Remove the adjuster and you should see a narrow straight line. This will also tell you how close you are on your shims. If the line does not clear from top to bottom you made need to add/reduce the pushrod length. From your vid though it looks spot on.

Edit: I believe the tech term is called "sweep" want to have a consistent vertical sweep the entire valve tip.

Morning,

I finished up the part of the valve train today.

I used the sharpie method Nick mentioned above. I am pretty pleased with the results so far. Getting a nearly centered line straight up and down the valve tip. The exhaust valve on one was a bit off center, but the intake was fine, so I will not shim it.

At half lift (.244 Intake, .235 Exhaust) I visually get a nice alignment. Easily seen with stock adjusters in.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i.imgur.com-23209-1601220988.2.jpg)

Here are some pics of the "sweep" line. My adjusters are all worn badly, so they are a bit squiggly.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i.imgur.com-23209-1601220988.3.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i.imgur.com-23209-1601220988.4.jpg)

Found my best adjuster and switched that out. I found that a dry erase marker works a bit better and switched to that half way through

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i.imgur.com-23209-1601220988.5.jpg)

So my Intake pushrod length will be 10.669" and Exhaust (IIRC) will be 10.6315". I purchased and archery cutting tool and will tackle that this evening.

Thanks so much for the help fellas. I owe you each a cold one.

Took me a bit to wrap my head around this.... (probably about 12 hours) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
