Heading says it all. I've seen all the Subi, V8, not enough v6, rotary, etc.
What about the 2.5L used in the late 924s or 944? Does anyone make adapters, etc? How well would it fit - you know - all the standard conversion questions. Thanks, |

there was a thread on this just last week; a search will turn it up. short version: that engine is v-e-r-y long and there are fitment issues. standard conclusion: by the time you've done the radiator conversion for a 4-cyl engine, it's a long way to go for not much.

Even if it did fit, its probably not worth the work. A 944 2.5l is only good for about 145hp. If someone pursued this swap, it would only make sense if it was a Turbo or an S2/968 3.0L, because you are working in the +200hp range now. Used S2/968 motors are probably cost prohibitive.
Maybe a Ford SVO turbo motor would be possible? I know KEP makes the adapter. |

928 engine รท 2 = 944 engine
and since the 928 motor has been done at least 3 times, yes it's doable, but not a bolt-in application, a custom made (you make it or I'm sure Rick could make it) adapter is needed. there will many roadblocks ahead.....if you cannot weld, fabricate or machine items yourself, then it can get expensive in a hurry (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) |

the location of the distributor is so minor compared to the rest of the logistics of putting the motor in the car, it's barely worth mentioning...

Another thing to realize is that you will need custom piping on EVERYTHING. The turbo pipes are in front of the engine. THe intercooler will be hard to place for good enough eficiency.
The turbo lag from the engine will make you wish you went with a v8 or a subaru tt. Have fun! |

Thanks, guys - that's why it pays to ask first.
Jason - my thoughts have leaned in that direction (though NA), but finding the V6 adapter plate is only one aspect. The other is the V6 engine mounting bar. Any ideas on that? I checked renegade, but no such animal anymore. Perhaps they did them at one time, but I couldn't find it. |

Ford SVO is an inline turbocharged 4 banger, roughly same problems as the 944 motor install would have
Ford SHO is the Yammaha built V6 screamer (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif) The front motor mount shouldn't be too difficult on a V6, it "should" be close enough that you take a look at how it's done on a V8 and modify the design to fit your needs. The "basic" Rod Simpson front mount uses the stock /4 mount with 1 bar on each side of the motor being bolted (with U-clamps) to the engine, supposed to be good up to 400hp |
