Looking to head out with a group of SoCal teeners in the Canyons of Malibu on Saturday 11/28.
We can meetup for coffee, take a few hours for a drive and plan a stop for lunch. Just chime in if you are interested and I'll plan a teener appropriate route. It would be great if we could get the OC & San Diego guys up to enjoy the roads out this way. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Route Information can be found in post #19 Confirmed @914_7T3 @jim_hoyland @MM1 @second_wind @Tonyooc @campbellcj @Robarabian @ValcoOscar @914Toy @Drem914 @Steve @Coondog @mxkinn01 @Mike D. @ 914 RZ-1 Maybe @DANNYMAC --- WARNING: Too many @ tags! --- |

I'll come up. Used to live at Zuma Beach during the Summers and loved driving the canyon roads.

I would highly recommend driving up Deer Creek to see Boney Mountain’s most majestic view this time-way more fun than sitting in line at Neptune’s Net for way too long [especially for what you get imho). If only we could have some proper boiled seafood - New Orleans style - now that would be worth the drive from OC and the wait!
I bet if you sat on a super curvy road in front of Boney and wolfed down that crumpled pb&j you dashed together @ 5am and then ripped down Little Sycamore Canyon Rd. . .it’d be one of the best lunch drives you’ve ever had! |

Great coffee bar too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) As for routes, I'll give you a call and we can come up with something for sure. |

I can hopefully tag along as well. Definitely be aware there are lots of cops, cyclists and "Sunday drivers" all around Malibu on weekends - best to do any canyon carving early AM.

The Snake was ruined over a decade ago - tv shows accelerated that demise . . .Tuna Canyon, Stunt, etc. have more traffic too, but the roads around Boney (Western edge of the Santa Monica Mtn. range) are generally still very low traffic except for the hikers (still have never seen patrols there) . . .although the last time I drove up there (Covid-summer, ) there were a few trains of wannabe racers and beach-goers flaunting the parking restrictions by jamming up the bottom of Deer Creek . . . and, tragically, semi-blazing their GT3's and M's up to Mipolomol Rd. (luckily, they looked a bit scared and lost 'cause it's quite steep at the beginning) . . .deeply depressing, as that area is the last bastion of scenic, curvy freedom . . .still, chances are good that it'll be tight, twisty and great . . . after 20 years of driving these hills, I still believe it's the most beautiful (secluded) drive in all that range.

Alright Teeners, had the chance to speak with @MM1 and loved his route ideas.
We have come up with the following route starting in Santa Monica so it's a little closer for the OC guys. We will caravan up PCH to Latigo Canyon and then cut across above Mulholland Hwy to Boney Peak and down to Deer Creek before heading to Trancas for late breakfast/early lunch. Total distance is 57 miles and should take 1 hr. and 55 mins. After food stop, we can head back up through the canyons (Piuma, Stunt, Scheuren) to Woodland Hills or just drive PCH back to Santa Monica. Meetup spot is Lot 11 on Hollister Ave. in Santa Monica at 7:45am. Please fuel up prior to arrival. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lot+11/@3...;4d-118.4861685 Also remember to "Mask Up" and remain socially distant as a courtesy to everyone in attendence. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Looking forward to a great day! |
