Hi there,
I am in the process of restoring my 73 2.0 that I bought in Georgia. I live in Germany. The body is completely stripped and should go to get some small work done and then to the paint shop. I want the paint to look perfect. The car has a decal on the drivers side doorframe. How do I get it off and on again after the paintwork? Anyone who has a good idea or some experience with that? My first thought was, to put some transparent adhesive foil on it, "warm" it up from underneath the metal and take it off that way. To put it back again, I could probably cut the foil to the size of the decal and refit it somehow. What do you guys from the USA do to get it off and on again? Same problem with the Karman sign. I could get it off by drilling the 4 pins that hold it. But how do I get it on again in a way that it looks precisely like before? Would be grateful for any experience shared! Take care, Werner |

this sticker cannot not be removed without damaging it I think from the picture, so I think you have to cover it up before paint or remove it and get a 'new' repro one. (get that first before you remove the old one !)
The Karmann tag can be removed, new rivets can be found to attach it again. |

I bought a new sticker from Carbone in Poland with my VIN punched in it. It was rather expensive though. It’s been a few years but I believe it was $77.

That is a cheap price to pay when you consider how crappy they look when they are taped off and then painted around. I think AASE offers them up too but they are probably sourced from Carbon. |

I bought a replacement door VIN from Car-Bone in May 2020. ($95 US + delivery)
Excellent quality! When I looked this morning on their website, I can no longer find it. May want to send them an email to see if it is still offered. I would recommend a replacement rather than trying to remove/salvage. |

I ordered one from Car-bone and it is scheduled for delivery Monday. Once I receive it I will post a picture for you to see as well as my thoughts re the quality. I will say it was a total of $80 delivered. I believe when you tape these off and paint it always looks not quite right. I know Car-bone makes the black sticker for the 4's. The 6's are silver in color. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Sure. Here is their link: https://car-bone.pl/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiuul...ASAAEgLAjvD_BwE
However I never did find the Compliance Sticker listed. I emailed them and they got right back to me and accepted the order. I also sent them a picture of my original compliance sticker to avoid any misunderstanding. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Hi Frankvw didn't realize there was access to the back of that tag from the inside of the car. Took the tag off and saved the old rivets as sample for buying new ones. Thank. |

OK, Very satisfied with Car-Bone all the way around. I ordered it on November 25th and received it on December 1st. That's crazy, right?
My question, to anyone who has actually installed one of these Compliance stickers, is how do I do this? Can I use the soapy water and squeegee method? Or is it a remove the backing and stick it in place and pray you get it straight method? Look how well it came packaged too: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
