Everyone,

Happy cyber Monday. I wanted to update everyone on 1.7 mufflers. @mepstein had mentioned that there maybe a need for an update to how things are progressing on the 1.7 mufflers.

I had the flanges cut and am working on a proper fixture now. I have built a few 1.7 mufflers in the past that were 1 offs and not fixtured. the fixturing costs are quite expensive as they are water jet cut out of thick plate to ensure repeatability. The flanges also took twice as long as the laser cutter cut 2.0 flanges instead of the 1.7 flanges I spec'd. I have also ordered from Laser the internals for the mufflers in large QTY's to make these things even possible. I am developing these mufflers in between doing the close outs of the quiet mufflers, developing the new 914-6 heat exchangers, GT bumpers for multiple clients, working my day job, and also trying to work on my car which has passed by the 5 year window already. I have thousands of dollars invested in the 1.7 mufflers and want them done ASAP and hope that this will be the case over the next few weeks. I want to break even by the end of the year as I have to sell upwards of 20 1.7 mufflers to break even.

I appreciate everyones patience and will remind you of the 914-6 heat exchanger project which took about 5 months from start to finish. These are not just a slap some inlets on and weld type of project but there is a real process and it is unique to the design. Please bare with me I promise it will be worth the wait.

Will a 2056 be happy with the 1.7 version behind it?

It was a toss up between getting a 2.0 quiet muffler or waiting for your 1.7 to come out. I have a set of the 1.7/1.8 SSIs on my 2056. I didn't feel the need to find a set of 2.0 SSIs. My current muffler is getting to loud for my old ears.

i am in the same senario, i have the1.7 sshe , they are nice, mint and not in need for replacment but if i made a change to any of your SS muffler, i would be pulling the Triad, and like to keep my HE, so a center rear dual outlet GT style would be my choice, should be plug and play to the existing HE correct?
how would you describe the sound of it to a triad?

Plug and play if you buy the single side exit and GT bracket. The two out of the the back may not fit a stock valance. The hardware kit is free until the first of the year. I have a sound/video clip from a member here that I’ll post shortly.

i figured the valance would have to go, OR get a fiberglass valance with no cut out and modify it for the back center gt pipes.

The 2.0 will be the quieter versions.. I will make the 1.7s in various sound levels but trying to first recoupe costs so doing The KISS method as far as options.. As a few of you know I spent the better part of this year spending a small fortune on some BS that I won't go into right now.. I can't afford to be over extended on multiple projects. I will be making the stock exit and sport rear exit muffler 1st then develop other options.

For reference the sport muffler tail pipe spacing is 12" on center

Just for my own clarification, the 1.7 muffler fits on both 1.7 and 1.8 stock heat exchangers, correct?

I know this is taking longer then some like. I can assure you it is happening. I just spent $8,000 on laser cut inlet tubes to speed up the building process. The inlets were taking forever and were not sustainable. This moves allows for a production model that will hopefully near eliminate delays in the future.. We are building cores now awaiting for the inlets to plug into them. Currently finishing 914-6 mufflers and will be onto this as soon as we can.. I have a small fortune in this project and appreciate everyones support on this. This will be huge for our 914 community but needs to be right.

Thanks for the details and looking forward to installing. Building out my 2.0 to a 2056 but have the 1.7 heat exchangers. Hoping for a sporty but not overly loud note. Quality being the number one priority is crucial.

Yes I found a bracket to confirm fit.. I will have 6 unit's done early next week that are spoken for. Then 5 sets of heat exchangers then back on 2.0 and 1.7 mufflers. For those wanting one you going to need to reserve a spot if you have not already though Mark or I. I am once again in a strange spot. I have all but run out of material as I am going though more then ever before and laser is delayed on everything.. there is really a major pipe line issue with raw materials coming from the mills, to metal spin,to laser, and then finally me. I think this will all smooth out over the next month.. there will also be an additional vendor or 2 that will be carrying product in their warehouse as the 1st shipment goes to them next week.

Pretty excited about this.. it has been growing pains for sure but hopefully this will make everything sustainable. My goal for 2021 is to ship 300 mufflers for 2021 and hire another welder.. thank you for all of your support.

Fit the 1st muffler up today. Gonna shrink the distance between the flange and the muffler body. The top nut will be tight but the mufflers will be nice. Planning to ship the 1st 6 mufflers next week.
