Some engine builders love to give their engines cutesy names like “the terminator”, “eliminator” or the “verbal masturbator”. So I thought my new engine should also have a cute name.

I’m calling it the “Junkyard Dog”!

I’m taking a bunch of parts I have lying around and sticking them together for my SDS FI play engine. I was going to stick a cam in my 1.8, but I just got a set of good used 2.0 pistons and cylinders, so I have all I need to slap a 2.0 together.
Remember this engine will only have to last till the end of the season, plus I’ll still have my old 1.8 as back-up.

My junkyard list:

1.8 case, the oil plug was striped and tapped for a 3/8 NPT plug. Free from the end of a VW swap, the dude didn’t want to pack stuff, so he was giving away shit.

1.8 heads with 42mmX 38mm valves, heli-coils in the plugs. Grind the valves, guides etc. These heads have been flycut major league so a CR check will be in order. They were left behind by a customer (in ’96) who never came back for them.

2.0 crank and rods, out of the core that I will be using for my 2270cc engine. The bearings are all tight and the main bearings (STD/STD) look real good, so I’m thinking of slapping it in as is.

Cam, Scat C-25, good used, new lifters and new DT bearings. Cam has been hanging around forever, I can’t even remember where I got it.

P&C, stock good used 94’s, will hone and re-ring, just acquired off of a core engine.

Oil pump, Type 1 25mm, almost perfect used.

Reground flywheel, this one is on it’s last time around, may have to trim the bolts for it.

New main and nose seals, pushrod seals, odds and sods left over from old gasket kits

What do you think?
I can program my SDS FI system, beat the shit out of it and I will care less if the engine goes boom.
This engine will be done for under $500.

So stay tuned junkyard fans, same junkyard time, same junkyard channel.

The Junkyard Dog, coming to a 914 near you soon!!!

I didn't put it there!

you used the wrong apostrophe and the browser displays the numerical value instead.

& #8217;

which is in fact UNICODE not ASCII ...

if you just use the apostrophe on the double-quote key it should work fine.
