new to the 914 world and try hard to get this one road worthy.
recently purchased 1971 1.7L. got running after 5 years sitting. was having rough idle and oil leaks so I pulled engine to overall tasks (easier when out of car) and clean up When I got to replacing the pushrod tube, I looked at the rods and was getting this wear on 3 of 4 rods. see arrows Happening on both sides. valves are okay, checked compression, all good but tops of pistons were very sooty and also were all plugs what would cause the wear? do they need replaced or can i flip them upside down additionally can this be part of the rough idle and sooty build-up? |
