Time has come to begin looking at sound-systems for my project car, and I see that this unit is a viable option for our cars, does anyone have any experience with this unit? Attractive that it integrates Apple CarPlay in a 1 DIN solution.
Also, I'm trying to avoid the classic 'Radio vs. No-radio' debate that pops up every now and again, so lets keep the, 'the only music I need is my engine' statements out of this. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) |

I have thinking about posting the same question myself. In my other cars I have switched to Pioneer systems that have hands free capabilities built into them and they work pretty well. There is some aftermarket systems that have many of capabilities the PCCM has however they are more money and 2 DIN high so that won't work.

It seems once you go 2 DIN, the options are endless these days. I do see there are options with a 'fold out' screen that point downward, but I'd be concerned with the passenger either hitting their knees on the screen or breaking it as it's offset. |

Do a phone mount and use an amp with Bluetooth and be done. Get an Amp with DSP and bluetooth and you're even more done.
But lets face it, I may be wrong, I ran a 914 for years with out a radio at all. Never had one in any of my 914s. My Boxster has a double DIN, review camera, Apple Car Play, on and on, it pushes to an 8 channel amp with DSP. Sound stage is superb, and when you get board of your streaming service or you hit the twists you turn it off and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

When I was shopping for radios, the only thing that kept me from that one was the price tag. Other than that, it checks all the boxes for me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif)
Would love to have onboard navigation. Most cell phone navigators don't work very well out here in Man Land. |

I have been eying the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB, pricey at near $500 so doubt I'll pull the trigger.

I'm more interested in hands free calling and navigation than the audio part. Getting rid of the eye rolls from my daughters every-time I print a map is worth at half the cost.

We have a Porsche Classic radio in my son's 993. Fits great and happy with it.
Tempting for the bluetooth and apple car play but I didn't really listen to the radio much in a 914 anyway as the radio and the speakers weren't worth the weight! |

From what I've been able to tell, the unit doesn't even include the navigator maps. For that you shell out another $150 for the magic SD card. They have some balls. |

I've got a modern kenwood 50w head unit and Pioneer 200w 6.5 " speakers, sounds like crap. So now a home needs to be found in the cabin for an 8" sub and an sub amp. The head likely needs a amp as well, takes a fair bit of power to overcome the noise of even a stock engine.
I have a weber /6 with a stockish banana that you can, most of the time, have a nomal conversation in. To me....IMHO....the OP's radio is just as ugly in a 914 as my modern POS. |

You will need to fab brackets to bolt it in.
I don't think you could do better than Waze for navigation. That tiny screen that far away would be practically worthless anyways. I have a pre-Apple simple $100 JVC HU w/ BT. It's basically a radio with a big volume knob and pre-amp stuff. Roadtrips with the phone and tethered tablet get the jobs done. |

I AM STUCK ON ALL CAPS: SORRY
FOR MARK. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=307620 So, I bought a 91 Mercedes Benz 500SL with 16,000 miles on it from the original owner this week The PO put in a KENWOOD KVT-516 KENWOOD FLIP UP SCREEN DVD SINGLE DIN and it is way to hard to figure out. I want something easy to use with Bluetooth for phone and just need a USB in the front for a thumb drive. I ordered a Pioneer SPH-10BT for $150. And the great thing on this unit is it has a bracket that comes out to hold you phone on/in it. It has an apt that makes it perfect for maps and well it is almost like apple car play ITS SINGLE DIN Pioneer Smart Sync Smartphone Receiver Featuring Built-In Cradle for Smartphone, Enhanced Multimedia Functions, USB Port and Built-in Bluetooth® • Alexa Built-in When Paired with Pioneer Smart Sync App • Made for iPhone® Connectivity • Compatible with Android™ Smartphones • Bluetooth® Connectivity • Notice: Pioneer Smart Sync App v3.0 update I DO NOT OWN AND PIONEER OR KENTWOOD STOCK BOB B |

Pretty nifty unit, but I don't think it will clear the dash pad.
