Car impounded for 30 days. This is about 30 miles from my house, must have been coming back from Vegas. For us locals we call this stretch of highway the CHP 100 plus zone. Lots of tickets handed out for 100 and higher MPH.

Curious what the cost of the ticket is? Pretty expensive joy ride. I've only had my 914=6 up to 140 and that was when I was in my 20's in the 80's. I would never do that now. I have to much to lose.

Edit: Yes "Vehicle Code 12500(a) VC - Driving w/o a License in California"

Yikes.

Seeing the 12500 CVC added onto the citation is extra troubling. I hope the court jails him and orders the car destroyed. The asshat couldn't bother to get a license, yet he is burning up the roads at 160-plus. No mercy at all.

Don't take it out on the car. It is not at fault. It should be impounded and sold, not destroyed.

In the late 60's-70's the Western States ( NM, CO, SD, WY) had unrestricted speed limits. As long as you did not get too stupid and there was not any traffic you could haul ass all day long at a 100 with out any problem.

Good point Clay. My beef is not with the car- it's the asshat driver. Court ordered sale and funds to be sent to educate teenaged drivers.

I like that!

Asshats should be punished. If he wants to do that, he needs to go to the track.

160 mph = 257 kmh in aus.

car would be crushed here. sadly.
+ a very good lawyer to stay out of jail.

in the offenders defense, i see some pretty asshat driving here at speeds below the legal limit (strict 110 kmh on interstates). said asshats are too busy doing everything but driving. it would be nice to see a jail sentence for switching on the cruise control and getting your phone out. penalties - phone crushed, offender jailed, car donated to a charity of choice.

lucky you.

back in the 90s when i lived in western australia, there was some tolerance for driving at high speed once a certain distance from perth. open flat two lane roads, long desert distances. i think it took me about 5 full minutes (maybe it was 10) to get the 1.8 to 105 mph. and the nose started coming up at around 95. there was no one else within about 200 miles of that aerodynamic experiment.

i have to memorize all the mph conversions to kph now when i drive so i don't risk a ticket in our zero tolerance environment. the cops are theoretically allowed no discretion in measured speed, ie 1 kph over is a ticket. in practice they tell me they apply 5 still.

Amateurs. Montana had a "reasonable and prudent" law before AND AFTER the federal 55 mph limit until 1999. Locals like to blame maniac out of state drivers for abusing the law and causing it to disappear. In reality, the MT Supreme Court struck it down as too subjective to be fairly enforced. Passing through when the law was in place, I saw plenty of vehicles with MT tags driving anything BUT reasonable or prudent. Moving here a couple years after speed limits had been instated, the locals still seemed to have extremely heavy right feet. One day while driving the legal 70 mph on the Interstate, I car passed me such a speed I got curious how fast they were driving and decided to try to pace them. My old truck started shaking at 95 mph as the car continued to get smaller in the windshield. Just as I decided to back off, another car whizzed past me like I was standing still, quickly overtook the first speeder, and dissipated over the horizon.

Soon after, I told that story to a co-worker who is 5th generation Montanan. He reminded me that only two years before, you could theoretically drive down the highway at 150 mph while swigging whiskey from a bottle and a loaded gun hidden under your seat and not break a single law. Of course we also had among the highest per capita traffic fatality rate and drunk driving accident rate in the country. That kind of freedom sounds fun, but the reality is quite different.

I like those days when you could pull up to the drive through at the liquor store and get a couple for the road and be legal. It was a long time ago.

travellers. part of a lost language.

in 70/80s aus trips were often described in numbers of cans.
"about 3 cans up the highway mate, turn left".

I see some of us a bit strict and acting as judges. We don't know all facts such us car, road conditions, traffic, etc. Plus, we all make mistakes.

Be safe out there while enjoying!

Car......Porsche, going to assume 911
Road conditions.....4 lane freeway. Straight in that area, clear weather.
Traffic........SB 15 on a Saturday always moderate with lots of trucks coming out of Barstow truck stops.

120mph could be fun with Zero traffic. Kill yourself it’s on you.
160 mph just plain stupid and odds are you will kill innocent people.

Crashing in the desert is a different animal. Getting a clear airway to Intubate the victim is almost impossible from the blood mixed with dirt-sand that’s completely filled there mouth, nostrils and blocked there airway.

There are no facts that warrant this behavior.
Sorry but I have had to request the Coroner to many times on that stretch of highway.

Yes....I agree...let's all stop being judges.

For those that want to be and live in or near San Berdo County here in the great So Cal wildernes...just show up at the court at the time stated and see what the judge says.

Carry on.

Oh...be smart... don't do this...learn from others.

I set mine up for rights and lefts. If mine did more than a 100 I'd throw a party. Too many low performance drivers on the road to do speeds like that there.
