After installing new bushings in the pedal cluster the engine idles too high. Reason is that the throttle body return spring seems a bit too weak to fully close the intake on my 1971/4. (The pedal moves freely, but now with a bit more friction due to less play and some grease.)
A Little push with the finger and idle is okay. Is there any possibility to add a second spring like on the later cars? Or should I just install a heavier spring to solve this issue? Any comments on this will be appreciated.

Greetings, Arno

Also check the rubber gas pedal. It acts as a spring too. If it is mushy at the bottom it has lisy the spring effect. If the cables are crossed depressing the clutch will accelerat3 the engine. Pull the cover plate at the front of the tunnel and look in with a mirror and light.

Had more than one car that had throttle return issues due to the gas pedal itself

If it is still pliable as stated the rubber helps with the return however there is another failure mode as well in that there is a metal hinge inside the rubber at the base of the pedal, this (like everything else on the car) rusts out overtime and causes the pedal to bind.
