There were a number of one-off concept cars in the period trying to "fix" the 914's polarizing/unpopular design. Thing is, the 914's design was way, way ahead of its time—and it just keeps settling in with me more and more as 31 years have passed. Butzi's team knew what it was doing, even if the world wasn't ready for the 914.
Stock NB cars, M471/GTs, and even BUB cars are looking better and better to me by the day. So functional. So pure. So "car." As for period 914 concept cars, the Tapiro was the one in my book. Just a stunner, and too bad it burned. Frua's 914 was pretty nice, too. The rest remain "period pieces at best" to these eyes, and have done exactly the opposite of their basis. YMMV… |

usa home grown. rotary engined corvette XP........?.......from early 70s, GM cut up a 914 to do it. |
