My front suspension is a just too damn low. Even with an LE air dam on the front, I routinely catch it on the ground pulling out of parking lots, but more importantly, on a near full right turn the right tire hits the fender lip AND the inside back edge rubs on my AC hoses inside the wheel well. I just replaced one AC hose, remounted the hose higher in a spot I thought was out of the way, and it's still freakin hitting. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif)
I want to raise it 1/4" to 1/2" or so. Can I do that with the adjusters on the front of the torsion bars, or will that fuch things up somewhere else. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif) |

The adjusters are there for that purpose. If you run out of threads, then remove and rotate the cap by a spline. You may need to do an alignment afterwards though.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) i frequently change the ride-heigth about 1/2" (lower for AX, higher for street) ... so far, i haven't felt the need for re-aligning the frontend, on both settings the car seems to behave the same at high speeds and cornering (except the understeer/oversteer thing, of course) ... Chris,
You should have no problem making this adjustment. I lowered it about 1/2" to get the attitude it is at right now. As far as alignment goes, drive it after the adjustment and see if you feel any changes, I doubt you will if your still using it as a street cruiser. I advise making your adjustments after taking initial measurements from donuts. Then, make change, roll car forward and back several feet and make same change to other side. Go for a drive and measure donuts again to check for equal rise on both sides. John |

You guys rock. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif)
I thought the above was correct, just wanted to be sure. John, great to see you more active around here again. Shockingly enough, car hasn't gotten painted yet. BUT, last thursday I met with the guy who's going to do the work this winter, and we agreed on a price and a schedule. Custom flares, custom rear valance and a full repaint. He'll have it all winter, and come spring, MWHOOOOHAHAHAHAHA!!!, she'll look like she drives. Raising the front of the car will take some negative camber out of the wheels--or add some positive camber, if you want to look at it that way. 1/2" shouldn't change it that much, though. It will also probably affect the toe angle, but again I doubt it will be enough to cause problems. If you want to be certain, though, you should get it checked again when you're done.
Or set up some strings and do the DIY alignment thing on your own! --DD |

Mission accomplished. WHOLEY CRAP does it ride better. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif)
First thing I found was that the right was about 3/8 lower than the left already. Raised both sides until I was 5 1/2 at the doughnut on both sides. I was surprised how adjusting one side made a big difference on the other side. Was a little frustrating, but I got them even after some effort. I expected the raise to soften out the ride some, but WOW, what a pleasant surprise. Rolling over a good sized crack in the road used to rearrange your innerds a bit, now, it's just a crack. The drive to the MWC just got a lot more inviting. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beerchug.gif) |
