914 Day has a special meaning this year. Fifty years ago today we picked up our brand new 914-6 at Johnson/Bozzani Porsche on North Central Avenue in Phoenix. The date, 9/14/71 was a total accident. It's been an adventure, one of the few left in our lives that date back that far. We'll celebrate with an extended drive to Telluride and back via one of western Colorado's scenic byways today, just as we did 6 years ago when we pulled it out of a 12-year hibernation and began refurbishment.
Bucket list six years ago was to drive it to all four corners of the continental U.S. while we could still get in and out without assistance. Did the West Coast tour, including car week in Carmel and associated Porsche events, five years ago. Had hoped to celebrate 50 by doing the East Coast this fall but life got in the way. Maybe next year. |
