yes it's possible! i hope none of you see it as blasphemy but rather admiration.
i picked up the 1.8 for $75 and am in the process of rebuilding. so i have some questions... -i plan to run dual carbs so i removed the fuel injection [dont wanna have to hook up a brain to the archaic 73]. I'm curious if this is a common thing, are there intake manifolds out there that will work with dual carbs and still mesh up seemlessly to the intake ports? -Also, i need to get the heads rebuilt. I've heard that i should only go to someone who has done type4 heads before. does anybody know any good names in the California Bay Area? Thanks a load! |

Hello
Welcome aboard (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) T4 swap in Bugs where/is apopular swap a couple years ago till the T1 biulders started routinely passing 150 hp. The biggest problem you will have is $$$$ A really good head job on a 2.0l T4 is almost the cost of a complete T1... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) There are some bug guys here (myself included), and lots of people to help you with the T4 motor... is it worth the cost ? After a couple weeks here you with catch the fever and get a 914. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool.gif) Goodluck Later |

Yes, any of the Weber/Delorto manifolds will fit in the bug's engine bay. The T4 is a bit narrower than the T1, so you'll actually have more room in there to adjust the carbs. And if you've had a T1 with dual carbs you know that's a pretty Big Deal.
And yes, only go to an A/C head specialist. The T4 heads have a tendency to spit out valve seats if they're not done well. |

Welcome to the club!
There are a bunch of different dual carb options for the T4 engine. I think cbperformance.com and aircooled.net both carry parts/kits -- but there are probably many other places out there as well. Hope your conversion goes well! -Kevin (I have a '61 baja with a 1.7 in it, and used to have a '73 Super Beetle -- fun car) |

Have you checked out Shop Talk Forums yet?
They have the Type 4rum just for Type 4 engine discussions, especially ACVW conversions. Also the Aircooled Technology Forum is there, which is specifically for asking Jake Raby of Raby's Aircooled Technology questions related to his Type 4 products and services. |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) STF's type4um has as many beetles with t4 conversions as we have running 914s with type 4s! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) welcome to the club!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) |

Great!!
Now you MUST visit the links below in my signature.. This conversion is basically all I do and I can make it so easy for you that the engine will bolt right in.. From the cooling system to the tailpipe it can be done in a weekend with no cutting of the car or special tools... BTW- Be sure to wtch the video on the home page of my aircooledtechnology.com site. This video is a ride in my 66 Beetle equipped with my 3 Liter Daily Driver (over 7K miles since March). After you watch the video you'll see that the sky (or wallet) is the only limit that is imposed on the TIV in a beetle! |
