Hello and Happy New Year's Eve! My name is Lance, and earlier this year, I bought my first car, I bought a 914!.

My dad has had his 911 since his college days, and when it came time for me to purchase a car, he encouraged me to follow a similar path. 911 Prices are too high for a high school senior, so I began to learn more about the Porsche brand. That is when I discovered the 914 and fell in love immediately. A few months pass, and eventually, I went to look at, and then subsequently buy, a project 914.

Since then I have been lurking on this forum researching and learning. My car has finally reached a point where it is mechanically solid, a little less than a year later.

It is 1970 914/4 with a (not original to the car) carbureted 2.0L engine and a side shift transmission. Both the engine and transmission have been rebuilt, and the most recent project has been swapping the wheels from four to five lug because it is so far from stock anyways. It has been through a few repaints but has retained its original color, L60E Irish Green. While both the hell hole and longs were solid, the trunk has a patch of rust that still needs repair.

It got back on the road in August, and since then I have been driving it almost daily.

Unloading the car with the help of my Dad and Grandfather.

Attached Image

A recent photo that shows the current state of the car, running and driving in my school's parking lot.

More photos will follow, whenever I can sort through all of them.

Welcome aboard Lance, and it must be a treat for a high schooler to be able to drive a real classic Porsche! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

Dude… so, cool! Built not bought! That’s the way to do it.

You will treasure this car for your whole life. I learned to drive in a 914, had a 944 in college, and bought a 996 that I have made my own over the past decade. This summer I bought a 914 because it never left my heart. The feel of these cars are unique in all of motoring. Relaxing, fun, and engaging; and oh man, just wait till you get to college with that thing!!!

I'm in Martinez. Used to go to the Coast Guard base in Petaluma when my dad was on active duty. It would be fun to meet up sometime!

And thanks to everyone for the positive words!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) Congrats on getting a 914 for your first car. I bought one for my son when he was 14, we fixed it up for him to drive thru his high school years and as he approaches his 40th birthday in a couple of days he still has it. Enjoy the ride!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) Very cool, I didn't get mine until I was 24. They are so much fun. Just be careful, people do not see you on the road, please do not assume they do.
