Shift knobs seem to be one of those fetish parts, where people spend lots for variations on stock--or on knobs that are anything but stock. Look at any late model 911 forum.

Well since you brought it up. This is the shifter on my 996:

996 Premium leather shift knob

It was a $300 part 10yrs ago and I figured, “why not?” Now I want to replace it because it’s too expensive for me to feel comfortable beating it up lol!!

Lol. Nope. But even with the short shifter I bought to go along with it, I still paid less than half price of what that stupid boot/knob goes for now.

if the crack in mine finally lets go think i will just go find a billiard ball and stick it on.
i will retire the original to a class display cabinet.

Nice--especially with the current $1095 "discounted" price tag.

For those not fluent in current Porsche pricing, especially on, ahem, frivolous accessories, check out the price for having leather covering on the 911 center dash vent slats--only $2700!
